Nina Kurbatskaya's "Frivolite" (Tatting book 3)

Nina Kurbatskaya's third tatting book has 18 color pages and there is a lace photo on nearly each of the 96 pages of this hard bound (8"x11") book. Although strictly traditional style tatting, there are some really large pieces here. Many items are composed of multiple motifs and others built from center out. There are some heavy influences from crochet work and some of that "overcrocheted" multiple picots on the outer edges so often seen in mass produced tatting from mainland China.

I was also most pleasantly surprised at the 10 page set of intructions with excellent diagrams, and photos and samples to illustrate the use of the technique. Additional instructional segments are found later in the book, too. The numbered diagrams are very clear and easy to follow. I am greatly intrigued by some of the swirling patterns and openwork which hints also at bobbin lace influences. All in all, another super book to add to your reference library.

Don't miss her first book, too!

Second book

Her second book was not widely available. However, here is a list of Russian tatting terms equivalents.
