Anne Meloni's

"Modelli di Chiacchierino"

Although there are a number of traditional tatting patterns used for doilies and edgings, in this new book Anna Meloni includes several successful experiments in free-form tatting, wearable tatting and jewelry. The lacy vest featured on the cover combined wide ribbons with tatted insertions and surrounded the entire piece with an cloverleaf edging. The 3-dimensional cluster of grapes is fabulous and the framed portrait of the Madonna is eye-opening work!

There is an instructional section on split ring tatting which shows in diagrams the "open hand" position of wrapping the split ring and includes photos of the lace in progress. There is also a well-photographed treatment of pearl tatting and a combination of it with extremely long beaded picots which is most intriguing.

One section demonstrates an aspect of the principles of "Bach vs Beethoven" designing. Under the "Bach" method, an outline is drawn and then filled with tatting. Anna Meloni uses this technique to create flowers, petals, leaves, and collages. She also shared this lesson with the online tatting class in December 2002. (See details.)
