Tatted Bookmarks; Needle and Shuttle Edited by Barbara Foster, Handy Hands Inc. The new book of designs from Handy Hands contains 16 patterns for bookmarks which may be tatted with either the shuttle or the needle. Notes are included where needed to emphasize a difference in method between the two techniques. Excellent practice patterns for the beginning tatter and several will challenge the intermediate tatter, too.

The Wedding or Annniversary Cross was very intriguing. A familiar ring and chain repeat pattern for the arms is given new life with overlapping double rings done in gold metallic thread replacing the intersection of the cross arms. Another very plain ring and chain repeat, the Tatted Cross, gets an eye-opening improvement with some of the chains being placed in tight formation and with the center having rings on both sides of the line of progression.

Six tatters contributed patterns for this book, Sandy Scales, Jill Hanna, Pam McCormick, Dee Powell, Elva Harris and Barbara Foster. Instructions for basic tatting are not included, however, directions are included for making tassels and twisted cords for the bookmarks. These patterns could be easily adapted to edgings for hankies or rows on round robin doilies.
