Pattern 3 - Anna J. Johnson

Pattern 3 First Round Medallion with Rickrack

Pattern adapted by Gina Brummett
A strip of rickrack joined so that there are 10 points Sample: Medium Rickrack, thread size 60 Coats

Tips: Stitch count for all rings and chains is in multiples of 8. You can use an awl to get through the 2 points of rickrack if they are tightly woven. I found my crochet hook went through easily. Make the join loose and the chain will lay nicely arched. If the join is too tight, the chain looks pointy. Only 5 rings and chains in the center so you won’t need a lot of thread on the shuttle for the center. For the outer part, however, you will need to wind CTM 2 shuttles because there is a split ring bridge between the 2nd and 3rd round.

1st Round Center: R 8 – (long enough picot to join 4 more rings in) 8, clr, rw
CH 8, j to 2 inside points together, 8, rw
*R 8, j to long p, 8, clr, rw CH 8, j to next 2 inside points together, 8, rw**
Repeat * to ** around, joining last CH to base of 1st R End off and hide ends.

Outer: 2nd round:
R 8 lp (long picot) 8, clr, rw CH 8, j to point of rr on outside, 8, rw
*R 8, j to p of prev r, 8, clr R right next to last r of 8-8, clr , rw
CH 8, j to same point as last CH join, 8, rw
R 8, j to last ring, 8, clr, rw R right next to last r of 8-8,clr, rw
CH 8, j to next outside point, 8, rw**

Continue * to ** around to last ring. Make this a split ring 8/8 and when the ring is closed, you can join it to the 1st ring. This puts you in the right position for round 3.

3rd round: R (split ring) 8/8, clr, rw CH 8-8, rw
*R 8 j to same p as prev r, 8, clr, rw
R, right next to last r, 8 J to next lp joining of 2 rings in prev rnd, 8, clr, rw
CH 8-8, rw** Repeat around. End off and hide ends.
