This pattern from the Corticelli book is Vase #107. As you can see the vase is quite tall. So you may select the height desired for your May Day basket and tat until you reach that level. The pattern may be freely copied and shared.

And here is a suggested edging which would do well as the handle for the basket. It is edging #57.

Insertion No. 57. This design is good in Corticelli Cordonnet Size 3, in ecru or linen, for table scarfs, and may be used with Lace Edge No. 52. *R. 4 d. s., 1 p., 4 d. s., 1 p., 4 d. s., 1 p., 4 d. s., Close; turn. Ch. 3 p. separated by 2 d. s., turn; R. 4 d. s., 1 p., 5 d. s., join to first p. on R., 5 d. s., 1 p., 4 d. s., close; R. 4 d. s., join to p., 5 d. s., 1 p., 5 d. s., 1 p., 4d. s., Close; R. 4d. s., join to first p., 5 d. s., 1 p., 5 d. s., 1 p., 4 d. S., close and tie; turn work, ch. 3 p. separated by 2 d. s. repeat. from * desired length, cut and tie. Repeat on opposite side, joining center p. of cluster to small R. and the small R. to the finished cluster.
