Georgia Visits The Palmetto Tatters in South Carolina
June 3-5, 2004
Palmetto Tatters Guild, Columbia South Carolina

Gentle Tatters!! I am just dancing the boogaloo and so looking forward to the Palmetto Tatters Workshop. The Self-Improvement class for tatters will be packed with hours of fun, friendship, chatting and tatting. I look forward to meeting each of you.

If you are member of the online tatting class you already know that I have recently moved from Alaska to Illinois. (No, that log cabin is not our new home but after 5 months living in this old farmhouse with only one bathroom and a cornfield, a well that gives us showers every other day, and electrical outlets surely installed by Ben Franklin himself, that Lincoln log cabin is looking better by the day.) Our new home is in place now and we will be moving in very soon. This will be my third workshop since moving and I am anxious to get back to work.

We are going to study techniques old and new and put them to use in some small portable projects. In keeping with my homespun surroundings, we may make a handkerchief doll, an old fashioned needle catcher, a sachet holder, perhaps even a pillowcase doll!

If you are a collector of old hankies with tatted edgings, bring a few with you. Those that have stains or holes are still usable and I will show you how to make it into a sachet bag and still show off the tatting. Or bring a plain hanky without edging and we can turn that into a pincatcher. If you have a fancy piece of material you can sure bring that instead. Or a solid color pillowcase can be turned into a doll. Antique linens rescued from the resale stores can be turned into many things, so feel free to bring them to work with.

All these projects are just a background on which to display your tatting. We can learn a technique and turn it into a flower, learn a join and a make a leaf. Made a mistake on a doily center? Got a snood or pouch instead? Instant bonnet for your hanky doll!!

Above all else, be prepared to experiment with your threads.

The techniques we address will depend on the needs of the tatters present. Make a list with a least 5 things you want to study, we will correllate that info after the first hour and proceed from there.
