Mlle Riego's Lily of the Valley Edging revised by Heidi Sunday

Many thanks to Heidi Sunday for sharing this pattern with us! This pattern was originally developed by Mlle. Riego in 1867. The original is found in the set of Riego books which are available as a fund raiser for the Lace Museum.

Ball thread for vine and Shuttle thread for blossoms

Starting with a large ring:
R 3 ds, p, 5 ds, 5 p sep by 2 ds, 5 ds, p, 3 ds, close ring, reverse work
*Ch 6 ds, p, 6 ds, reverse work
R 4 ds, j to last p of large ring, 4 ds, close ring
Leave a small space (approx 1/8 inch)
R 4 ds, j to next p of large ring, 4 ds, close ring
R 10 ds, close ring (no space before this ring)
R 4 ds, p, 4 ds, close ring (no space before this ring)
Shuttle join in the small space between opposite small rings
R 4 ds, p, 4 ds, cl r, reverse work
Ch 6 ds, p, 6 ds, reverse work
R 3 ds, join to last small ring, 5 ds, join to next small ring, 3 p sep by 2 ds, 5 ds, p, 3 ds, close ring, reverse work*
Repeat between *s to desired length
