Gina: I would like to try it with using holographic sewing thread along with the white sometimes Bernice: hi Robin & Zita Aurora: Hi robin :D Gina: but I thought I would wait till I have more practice Susan: link did not work Gina: hi Bernice and Zita Winkerbill: Got white thread for the middle of the snowflake and will use the same white for the outside, but will add a strand of holographic sewing thread...Sulky, I think it is....with the outer round of white. Aurora: Gina, I dont know the holographic sewing thread... How is it? Winkerbill: Plain white inside with sparkle on the outer round. ZITA: good afternoon, sorry for the interruption picotsnkeys joined the chat 7 hours ago Bernice: Hi Gina & all Gina: I have some by sulky I think picotsnkeys: Hi all Aurora: Hello Zita :) Susan: hi all Aurora: Mel!! hello :) Gina: its in with my sewing stuff Yuma Tatter joined the chat 7 hours ago ZITA: hello aurora Yuma Tatter: Hello Everyone... had company just now left Gina: its actually called holoshimmer or something Aurora: hi Yuma :) How are you? Gina: have a few colors Gina: use it for machine embroidery Gina: hi Anita Bernice: Hi Anita, wondered where you were Winkerbill: Sulky makes holographic and metallic machine embroidery threads (called "sliver" metallic) that are pretty smooth and work very well added in with a strand of regular tatting thread. Yeah, the holographic stuff is holoshimmer or something like that. And the metallic is 'sliver'....I love the stuff Winkerbill: I use it for tatting. Gina: does anyone have a link to SCMR? picotsnkeys: just got in from the morning activities northern robin: i have some beads if I have to use a second thread I will take the time to add enough for the outside picots Winkerbill: hi Melanie Bernice: So do you tat it as one? Yuma Tatter: Penny stopped by to scan some photos for Ch 10, bernice ZITA: I am Chilean, wally group Jenny joined the chat 7 hours ago Winkerbill: brb...got to go pour the water into the teapot. Jenny: Hi everybody Wally joined the chat 7 hours ago Winkerbill: yes, you wind the two threads together on the shuttle and tat as one thread. Susan: Aurora these are my suggestions for this pattern TOCL R 3+ 3_+ 3 – 3 (see picture ) R 3= 5-2-2- - 2- 5-3 R 3+3-3-3 (Join to last picot ) Wally: Hi everyone! Gina: hi Wally picotsnkeys: I love tatting with Sulky and size 80. Gina: thank you for the pattern, Wally! Gina: have you heard from your husband???? Winkerbill: and tat the chain....it's a little more of a hassle sometimes if you're using a BALL as the chin thread, but do the chain with both threads as one, also. Wally: Hola Zita! Barb: whew... back Bernice: Sounds neat Winkerbill picotsnkeys: Hi Wally! ZITA: hola wally Yuma Tatter: I like the idea of adding the sewing thread to the tatting thread...will it work with tatting thread as large as 20? Bernice: Hi Wally Wally: Yes I was talking with him a couple of hours ago. He's fine tho no work or money Aurora: hello Wally :) picotsnkeys: glad he is OK Gina: oh I'm so glad to hear he is okay! northern robin: I am thinking of some other ideas with that as I never thought of adding anther thread Bernice: Glad he is doing ok picotsnkeys: hope things settle down enough for the banks to open soon Gina: must be so hard there now Wally: He's staying with a sister and is a little far from the main problem area Barb: OH Wally! I'm so thrilled. Yuma Tatter: will this be a class where we sign in, or more of a chat...My first Superbowl Tat Gina: can you tat with the sulky thread and size 20? or other sizes? Gina: my first also Anita Wally: Is Georgia coming? northern robin: me 2 Wally: We tat and chat on SuperBowl Susan: she is going to try the weather may be a factor Gina: I was just winding my shuttles as people started coming in LOL Winkerbill: Yuma, it works with large thread, even as large as size 10, but the smaller the size of tatting/cotton thread you add it to, the more obvious the sparkly thread will be. Still gives a hint of sparkle even to size 10 thread, though. AKTATTER: DO NOT RW PUT THE BOTTOM OF THE LAST RING UP TO THE NEEDLE AND CONTINUE THE CHAIN Soyloquesoy: ok, thanks for the encouragement :-) Winkerbill: and after a join or a ring, when I go back and begin the next part of the SCMR, I have to check that first DS again....both the first half and the 2nd half....because if I don't check it, that's when it decides to make a mess. :-) Cynthia: it has a mind of its own Wink Beverly: brb, cotton mouth from my meds. I need to get a good jug of water. Barb: me too Cynthia.. read along and then tat later. I can't tat fast enough to keep up.. Maybe the clovers would have closed up tighter with 2 shuttles. Yuma Tatter: gaposis...that's my biggest problem, I think! Winkerbill: guess it's cause I've caught a bug and lost my voice...so if I can't use my MOUTH to talk, I've got to find ANOTHER way to talk for a while. <sillly grin> Cynthia: Dare you can work on it or just read along...your choice... RRose Connie: A lot of ppl I don't know :) At least Tatting is alive and well :) northern robin: I have, up to now not done he RW and it works for me better than doing it..which is what i jst did..:-( Soyloquesoy: oh, doh, found TOCL in the instructions Susan: thrown off clover Dare2pt@gmail.com: Good bye everyone nstitcher: is this snowflake pattern the same as 1999? just want to be sure I havae the right thing Soyloquesoy: thanks Susan Beverly: sending a file on Skype connie stitchingsharon joined the chat 5 hours ago RRose Connie: cool thanks. RRose Connie: hello Sharon Dare2pt@gmail.com: one question -- will we get to know ahead what supplies we need next time for we can be prepared stitchingsharon: I just booted myself out. northern robin: is not the TOCL the same thing as a continuous ring..making 3 rings without a RW or NWS? Susan: was not with the group in 1999 so do not know stitchingsharon: Need more caffeine Susan: no Dare2pt@gmail.com: What is the TOCL again Susan: clover is a old term for three rings tatted together\ Susan: like a clover leaf Beverly: is there a new term that I've missed? stitchingsharon: TOCL is the clover leaf -- stitchingsharon: look at page 3 stitchingsharon: first time you do it, she tells you the steps. Soyloquesoy: it is used in this pattern to replace the instructions for the three consecutive thrown rings in the second round, isn't it? Kerry: Thanks, am learning lots here. Good to know what the TOCL means. Raelara joined the chat 5 hours ago Susan: the term clover leaf or clover has been around for 100 years stitchingsharon: the clover comes off a chain - that's the thrown off part Susan: yeas Soyloquesoy: yep Susan: I keep a coupl stitchingsharon: TOCL is a new term for me too, but by reading the pattern I figured it out. Kerry: Time to go, we have company. Bye everyone. Have a good time tatting. Soyloquesoy: one must remember to read the abbreviation explanations on each pattern Dare2pt@gmail.com: any others have tips for us Susan: I have all the TATTING terms I have learned through the years stitchingsharon: Now I need time to tat. Soyloquesoy: Bye Kerry! Gina: ok I undid the second half of the SCMR and I'm back to the 2 rings and I still can't slide the loop Gina: do I need to try to take out the rings? Susan: you can get a book of terms northern robin: me too..maybe I will be back later..I have several knots to undo and they are small and...knotty Gina: and bye to everyone leaving northern robin: Gina..you must have an unflipped knot somewhere you have to unpick tilyou find it Soyloquesoy: hm, Gina, do you have a full loop? Dare2pt@gmail.com: Were people able to print or post pictures here or somewhere else I know some knew of others pictures in the chat northern robin: bye Susan: or tighten the thread to much Soyloquesoy: Bye robin! Soyloquesoy: Hi Brandy, Dare2pt@gmail.com: It's not mine is's from this class (the heart) Soyloquesoy: I am fine and you? picotsnkeys: k Soyloquesoy: yep, I know, I had somehow missed it before. Dare2pt@gmail.com: I found some wonderful angels patterns for tatting on-line yesterday brandywyne13: Doing good, just walked in from a morning of shopping. Now I have to pick up and figure everything out. Gina: I can't get the rings out Soyloquesoy: undoing rings is a pain. Gina: there is another class tomorrow Dare Soyloquesoy: Was this the first SCMR? Gina: same times Gina: yes Soyloquesoy: I think, personally, I would ditch it and start over. Gina: I'll have to waste all this thread picotsnkeys: Gina, you may have used the wrong shuttle/needle for the 3 clover rings Gina: I don't have anymore shuttles Soyloquesoy: Jon Yussof has some clear tutorials on openen rings. Let me find them for you :) Gina: its not the 3 clover rings Gina: I'm still on the first SCMR RRose Connie: Yikes, I think this BEAUTIFUL snowflake pattern is definitely advanced for me *chuckle* Gina: I can't close it so I unpicked the second half of the SCMR Soyloquesoy: I understand, it's the two thrown rings. picotsnkeys: can you save it by doing some phaniggling at the beginning? Gina: and I can't get the rings out Gina: like what Melanie? Soyloquesoy: You must make those with the "ball shuttle" Dare2pt@gmail.com: What is it necessary to have 2 shuttles -- would one and the ball have worked too???? Just wondering Gina: shuttle 2 is supposed to do the rings? Soyloquesoy: phaniggling , interesting word, LOL! Soyloquesoy: yes Gina Gina: I'm thoroughly confused now picotsnkeys: well, you have the chain of 8 - 10, then the 2 seperate rings using the "ball" shuttle/thread right? Soyloquesoy: dare, yopu need to use "the ball" to work the throuwn rings, that why you need two shuttles. Soyloquesoy: Am I clear as mud? picotsnkeys: Dare- you can use the ball to tat the 2 seperate rings, but it's easier with 2 shuttles Gina: right Melanie Dare2pt@gmail.com: OK thanks picotsnkeys and what are throuwn rings Gina: so let me see if I have this correct now... I am to wrap shuttle 2 around my pinkie and do the first part of the SCMR with shuttle 1? picotsnkeys: then you did 10 - 8 and now you're supposed to close the SCMR Gina: and then do the rings with shuttle 2, the one that was wrapped around my pinkie? picotsnkeys: yes...you got the shuttles in the right hands Soyloquesoy: thrown rings: rings worked with the thread that is forming the stitches on a chain, ie. you have to switch shuttles from the one you were using to make the chain. Gina: okay then I did do it with the wrong shuttle picotsnkeys: so you change shuttles for the rings in the [ ] area Gina: *sigh* Dare2pt@gmail.com: Who is in charge in this chatzy -- just wondering if its the lady I signed up with might be be here under a different name? Dare2pt@gmail.com: Just learnin picotsnkeys: oh no........well, maybe you don't have to pitch the work yet picotsnkeys: Dare- you can change your name under preferences, I think Soyloquesoy: Gina, which way are your rings curving? Dare2pt@gmail.com changed name to Lindy 5 hours ago picotsnkeys: Gina- how about not trying to close the ring, but just snug up the stitches as best you can and tie off the threads to make a ring? Lindy: ThanksI'm Lindy now instead of Dare Soyloquesoy: if they go "inwards" from the chain, i think it may be difficiult, but maybe picots has some ideas picotsnkeys: good thought Soy Gina: I've messed up my rings now by trying to unpick them picotsnkeys: I like Lindy better :) Gina: I'll have to toss this thread and start over Soyloquesoy: yes, hi Lindy! Gina: dang it picotsnkeys: I'm sorry Gina Soyloquesoy: well, cut the knots and keep the little bits to make butterflyes or tiny flowers :) Lindy: I'm going to try to makes the heart and the snowflake when we're done here my time is limited though at times MaryR: Time for me to go...Take care all! picotsnkeys: have a walk around the block first. I may give them a try Soyloquesoy: they are smaller, brandy Gina: its bits and pieces of wood smashed together Gina: I think MDF stands for multiple density fiberboard Soyloquesoy: oh, just measured one, it is exaclty 3"x3" Brenda: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a92JxA41wxE&feature=channel Gina: soemthing like that Soyloquesoy: It was a joint project with my daughter, they were the party favours on her last birthday. Soyloquesoy: I agreed to the tatting if she painted them Soyloquesoy: She got a bit of help from my mom, but it worked out great! brandywyne13: Brenda, you are always a fount of links, have you considered posting a list of them? picotsnkeys: must go Soyloquesoy: bye! Brenda: not done it on a needle but i have a link for it brandywyne13: Brenda, can you sleep most of tomorrow? Soyloquesoy: I believe it is the same as any ring. Gina: thanks for the links Gina: I already cut it off because I got a knot in the ring while I was trying to unpick it and I couldn't get it out Soyloquesoy: whe you fiinsh the chain, you pass the needle though the begging of it. Gina: but they should come in handy for the future Brenda: your welcome hope they help. i didn't have any problem with the first round. cut the second round off twice now. back to square one LOL Soyloquesoy: But, I don't needle tatt so don't take my word on it! It's purely theoretical knowledge! Gina: how do I save this thread? how do I mark how long it is and the size? Soyloquesoy: you could wrap it on a piece of cardboard and write the details there. Brenda: I go to bed most nights at 2am so there is a chance i will be awake. Soyloquesoy: was just about to do the same with some bits I got brandywyne13: Gina if you are talking about left over thread, us a sticky back label and write color code and size on it. Soyloquesoy: what time is it where you are now , Brenda? Gina: I'll have to find something to wrap it on\ Soyloquesoy: a bit of cardboard works, unless you are concerned about the bends - then let me reccomend a winde cork Soyloquesoy: wine, not winde brandywyne13: What kind of wine have you been sipping Soyloquesoy: lol! Gina: no wine bottles around here :) Soyloquesoy: none so far, I assure you! Gina: well now I'm thoroughly disgusted with myself Soyloquesoy: the center of a sewing thread bobbing works too :) Soyloquesoy: what happened, Gina? Gina: I have to start over Soyloquesoy: don't be hard on yourself :) Lindy: Thank you everyone for all your help -- there sure is a lot more to tatting than I ever imagined even if I can do the basic stitches, we still have to tie or weave threads in -- learn split rings, and lots lots more stuff than I imagined -- some surely are advanced too. Soyloquesoy: What thread were you using? a very expensive one? Soyloquesoy: that's part of the fun, Lindy! brandywyne13: Gina, I am still trying to figure out what I am doing. I am learning needle, should I do this with cut thread or off ball Gina: just lizbeth Lindy: yes it will be fun - most certainly Gina: I'm just starting to learn needle also, I don't really know brandy, sorry :( Lindy: where are all of you from? brandywyne13: Which are you doing> Gina: FL USA Soyloquesoy: I'm from Argentina brandywyne13: CA, USA Gina: this I'm doing with shuttles Lindy: Hi brandy in CA - I'm in Utah brandywyne13: Beautiful country, Bryce, Zion, Arches WOW Lindy: We have a fabulous Bountiful quilters group here, I'm kinda lax at attending but hope to do better this year they are a very friendly gorup of gals Lindy: Yes, we have it all sagebrush, mountains, rivers, fishing, camping hiking sun and snow Lindy: Wow soy your a long way off -- are you advanced brandywyne13: I am in the mountains between Santa Cruz and San Jose.
