Let's celebrate right here at 3PM and 8:30PM ET all tatters welcome. AKTATTER from x.x.x.30 joined the chat 7 hours ago AKTATTER: I'm getting a cup of tea, back soon Winkerbill from x.x.x.218 joined the chat 7 hours ago Winkerbill: Hi! I've got my tea and my tatting, and I'm ready to go! ;-) AKTATTER: hi Vinnie from x.x.x.116 joined the chat 7 hours ago Winkerbill: What kind of tea do you have Georgia? Vinnie: Hello! Winkerbill: I've got plain old black tea today. Winkerbill: Hi Vinnie AKTATTER: sweet tea from McDonald's had breakfast there today got the large size to go enough for allday! AKTATTER: welcome vinnie Vinnie: Thanks for the invite AKTATTER AKTATTER: glad you made it AKTATTER: the first half hour is open to chatting and all needle tatting questions AKTATTER from x.x.x.30 joined the chat 7 hours ago Vinnie: Oh, everybody in my house is sound asleep and I'm all by myself, I usually sleep late Winkerbill: i have 1 ring and 1 chain with a magic thread to install, and I'll have a tiny doily finished....so if I"m awfully quiet for a while, that's why ;-) AKTATTER from x.x.x.30 sent out an invitation 7 hours ago Winkerbill: Where are you Vinnie? Vinnie: India, Noida ,near Delhi AKTATTER: This is the designer of our pattern for today Steph, Dr. Vinita Sharma Winkerbill: Wow! I'm on the east coast of the US...in North Carolina... it's about 2:30 p.m. here Vinnie: It's 12midnight here Winkerbill: I thought this was our pattern designer, but don't remember seeing anything but the lesson before class...I've been sick...haven't done much "computering" for the last week. Winkerbill: Wow! No wonder everybody is asleep! AKTATTER: tatting is just the thing to get you better Winkerbill: You know, I was SO sick, I didn't tat for about 30 hours!!! Vinnie: That's a long time surely! Winkerbill: I'm doing better now.... Winkerbill: and tatting again. Vinnie: about needle tatting, if I may ask, Vinnie: I'm not very fond of the loose ds you get when you do it, you know the shuttle gives such a tight knot AKTATTER: yes the shuttle gives a great result but AKTATTER: there are needle tatters whose work is so good it is hard to tell it apart Vinnie: and I just can't keep my rings and chains straight! AKTATTER: it all depends on how well the diameter of the needle and the thread are matched AKTATTER: because the ds are wrapped around a hard object, the needle, AKTATTER: when they slide onto the soft thread there is always a looseness Vinnie: maybe because everytime you close a ring you have to do a kind of SLT, if talking in terms of the shuttle AKTATTER: shuttle tatting wraps thread around wrap and that is why it is no neat AKTATTER: so nest AKTATTER: argh... typos are the bane of my existence AKTATTER: so neat Vinnie: can't yet get myself to change over Winkerbill: Why would you want to change to needle tatting? AKTATTER: yes why change? I mean we all learn it and it is god for beading tatting and using fat fluffy metallis or textured fibers but shuttle tatting remains the best to me Vinnie: some of the needle tatting works look so wonderful and neat AKTATTER from x.x.x.30 sent out an invitation 6 hours ago Winkerbill: Ah, yes, I understand. I have a book of snowflake designs and one of them is lovely.....but you have to use the needle, because there are woven bare thread spaces in it. Vinnie: definitely gives the result a softer feel and like AKTATTER says any kind of fibre can be used Winkerbill: I prefer my shuttle, though, and can do ....anything but weave into those little thread spaces with my shuttle. AKTATTER: have you seen the homework posted this week? Dagmar has done wonders Winkerbill: oh, I DID see that! What lovely tatting!!! Vinnie: I gave it a try in the winters with wool ( I had the knitting bug then!) AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2010/20... Winkerbill: I have tatted with some strange fibers occasionally....usually by using a smooth thread on the shuttle and using the textured thread on the ball. SCMRs give me the "rings" and it looks like it's been tatted with the textured stuff, but I know better.... ;-) Winkerbill: brb....thought I had "everything" I needed, but I just finished the tiny doily and need to get my thread cutter. Rosemarie from x.x.x.103 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: we used feathery stuff for Ruth's boa last year. Rosemarie: Hi everyone AKTATTER: welcome Rosemarie Winkerbill: hi Rosemary! Vinnie: Hi Rosemary Vinnie: Dagmar's Work is beautiful Rosemarie: I took a look at Dagmar's homework. She does beautiful work. picotsnkeys from x.x.x.37 joined the chat 6 hours ago Vinnie: A lot of labour and hard work too picotsnkeys: Hi all AKTATTER: hi ya mel AKTATTER: her work is super I also just added homework from Jenni and Maria Winkerbill: Done! :-) (I was just finishing the last ring and chain of a doily, Rosemarie) AKTATTER: any needle tatting questions? Winkerbill: hi Melanie AKTATTER: that's great Steph Winkerbill: none from me. Vinnie: I'm all with the shuttle presently! picotsnkeys: No questions. Just taking a break from finishing a shamrock wreath. picotsnkeys: Hi Steph Winkerbill: Some of the doilies in vintage books are called "occasional" doilies....what's that supposed to mean? Obviously they're doilies all the time, right? picotsnkeys: occasional often means what is used everyday picotsnkeys: perhaps that's the meaning here Winkerbill: Aha! make each day an 'occasion," huh? picotsnkeys: yes! As opposed to festival or feast use Vinnie: OK, that's news Winkerbill: I have a cookbook that makes a big deal over ...um...forgot exactly how they said it, but you should serve your family attractively every meal, not just when you have guests in the house. Vinnie: I thought otherwise! Cynthia from x.x.x.14 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: occasional doilies were designed to fit Winkerbill: hi Cynthia Cynthia: Hi everyone.... AKTATTER: occasional tables which were place next to sofas in the old days Vinnie: Hello AKTATTER: welcome cyn picotsnkeys: Hi Cynthia. You're successfully on line!!! Rosemarie: k picotsnkeys: You won't get mad at me if I giggled through your NSAN post will you? AKTATTER: hey around here my family is lucky they get a hot meal! Winkerbill: which explains why the pattern uses size 10 thread and makes a good-sized doily. I've been playing around with size 80 and size 100 threads just for fun. Winkerbill: comes out tiny, but even my husband thinks they're pretty. ;-) BahmaTerri from x.x.x.39 joined the chat 6 hours ago BahmaTerri: Hi Everyone! picotsnkeys: Hi Terri Winkerbill: Hi Terri Cynthia: yes and you can giggle all you want. I just have given up and am using hubby's....he said to tell everyone hi maria alcantara from x.x.x.205 joined the chat 6 hours ago picotsnkeys: Hi Maria Winkerbill: hola Maria! maria alcantara: HI all girls!!! Rosemarie: Georgia, I've always thought that the smaller tatting needles shoud have a flexible eye to accomodate the finer threads. Then the work would look more like shuttle tatting. AKTATTER: welcome Maria, your homework is lovely the bright thread really pops! Winkerbill: Georgia, I see Jenni Sherriff's name is on the page, but I don't see a picture with her tatting Gina from x.x.x.74 joined the chat 6 hours ago maria alcantara: THANK YOU!!!!! Cynthia: My computer goes back to the shop tomorrow morning...for a rematch with the tech... Gina: hello all picotsnkeys: I do like the bright colors Maria! AKTATTER: oh if only they would make tatting needles with those open ends like for sewing needle, you slide the thread into the slot then pull down to get it inot the eye! Cynthia: Vinnie the doily is awesome thank you for sharing the pattern maria alcantara: i am working in todays design....is alittle ???? complicated for me...jajajaj AKTATTER: oh I will go look AKTATTER: you will be surprised Maria, Dr. Vinita is here to help us Vinnie: Thanks Cynthia Winkerbill: and did Dagmar mention where her patterns came from? The baby things are so pretty! Winkerbill: I would love to make some.... picotsnkeys: I like the spring colors also Cynthia: I love multi layered design Rosemarie: k Vinnie: It was actually just a doodle that turned into a Doily! AKTATTER: check for Jenni's homework now Winkerbill: I think I will try Vinnie's pattern using size 20 thread first.....then try it again with tiny thread later, once I have the technique learned. maria alcantara: Vinita= Vinnie ??? Jennifer from x.x.x.52 left this message 6 hours ago: Hello again. I've read through the pattern but haven't worked it yet so I'll pick up some tips this evening. Cynthia: Good idea Wink Winkerbill: Jenni's clef signs and notes showed up this time! Winkerbill: They're cute! AKTATTER: serenpidity strikes again, it did that once for me using the old split ring heart, I dropped a bunch on the table and they made themselves into a doily! All I had to do was write the pattern! Vinnie: got to see jenni's work now CelticDreamWeaver from x.x.x.244 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: oh good that treble clef is really cute CelticDreamWeaver: Well...well...helllo everybody Paula from x.x.x.134 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: that is fine jennifer CelticDreamWeaver: Hey Steph....I just found out I have diabetes AKTATTER: scroll down and click join chat too jennifer Winkerbill: Hi Sherry! CelticDreamWeaver: they are having me take the glucose test right now to see what I do AKTATTER: adult onset diabetes is becoming more and more prevalent these days because of our poor eating habits Paula: I am having a giveaway on my blog for International tatting day Cynthia: diet and exercise--I know nasty word but everything you do is exercise... Paula: Here is the link http://needleshooksandpaperbackbook... CelticDreamWeaver: can you say the word starve AKTATTER: great Paule tell us about it AKTATTER: ok Winkerbill: If you can work up to an hour (broken into smaller hunks if necessary) of 'vigorous' type exercise a day, it helps a lot. CelticDreamWeaver: actually they think mine is because I starve myself during the day and then I eat the big dinner CelticDreamWeaver: since I do the starving during the day my body really thinks it is starving so it is trying to retain everything claudia from x.x.x.130 joined the chat 6 hours ago CelticDreamWeaver: I don't normally eat breakfast CelticDreamWeaver: and alot of time I don't eat lunch either claudia: hi girlssss!! Vinnie: Thanks bead... AKTATTER: DON'T LET THEM OVER POWER YOU KRYSTE Vinnie: I've been tatting for some 10 yrs now AKTATTER: VINNIE PLEASE CHANGE NOW TO ALL CAPITAL LETTERS AKTATTER: FOR LESSON INFO WE USE ALL CAPS krystledawne: Lol Vinnie: OK claudia: beautiful design vinnie AKTATTER: OH THAT IS GREAT krystledawne: they take advantage of my weakness lol Cynthia: kids and wild animals always do AKTATTER: OK VINNIE WHERE IS THE STARTING POINT? Vinnie: ITS ALL DONE IN ONE ROUND AKTATTER: THIS FIRST RING IS ACTUALLY ON THE OUTER EDGE OF THE DOILY? maria alcantara: yupi!!!! AKTATTER: THAT IS WONDEFUL AS WE TATTERS HATE TO CUT AND TIE AND HIDE ENDS! claudia: no cut? wonderful! maria alcantara: CTM....yes.... Winkerbill: I think that's one reaso I love tiny thread so much - one shuttle holds enough for a pretty 'large' project....except that 'large' project turns out very tiny. ;-)\ AKTATTER: OK YES WE BEGIN THEN WITH 2 SHUTTLE WOUND CTM Winkerbill: But it LOOKS so pretty and dainty in small thread.... Vinnie: YES WE START AT THE RING ON THE OUTSIDE Raelara from x.x.x.184 joined the chat 6 hours ago Vinnie: 14-14 RING AKTATTER: WELCOME JENNI WE ARE ON RING 1 maria alcantara: . Cynthia: . picotsnkeys: love your homework picture, Jenni AKTATTER: RING 1 THEN REVERSE WORK Raelara: thx melanie Vinnie: WILL SOMBODY BE TATTING ALONG? THAT'S WHAT i'LL DO AKTATTER: OK THEN LET'S KEEP LISTING THE PATTERN FOR THEN VINNIE AKTATTER: AFTER THE REVERSE WORK WE TAT THE CHAIN beadntat: I'm just listening and thinking today...and taking notes AKTATTER: THIS IS A LONG CHAIN 20 DS Rosemarie: k Vinnie: YES , TURN THE WORK AROUND TO WORK WITH THEOTHER SHUTTLE AND TAT THE CHAIN AKTATTER: SO WE MAY WANT TO USE THE BALANCED DOUBLE STITCH AKA THE DOUBLE DOUBLE STITCH AKTATTER: http://www.e.n.e.btinternet.co.uk/d... Vinnie: THE LONG CHAIN GIVES THE 1ST HALF OF THE OUTER CIRCLE AKTATTER: LOOK THERE FOR A REVIEW OF THE DDS/BDS Cynthia: I was wondering about that... AKTATTER: THEN THERE IS A VSP Winkerbill: I find when I use the BDS, 4 BDS equals about 5 'regular" DS for me. AKTATTER: A VERY SMALL PICOT WHICH IS USED FOR JOINING NOT FOR DECORATION maria alcantara: you need a curve not a line... Vinnie: i DON'T REALLY THINK WE NEED BDS 'CAUSE WE WONT THE CHAIN TO CURVE AKTATTER: THAT IS A GOOD POINT TO CON SIDER AKTATTER: TO MAKE THE CHAIN CURVE MORE COMPRESS THE LAST DS BACK TO THE STARTING POINT OF THE CHAIN AKTATTER: OK THEN NO CURVE! Vinnie: THEN THERE'S THE VSP, Vinnie: S FOR JOINING AND SHOUDN'T LEAVE A SPACE IN THE JOIN AKTATTER: OK VERY TIGHT JOIN GOT IT! AKTATTER: BUT YOU HAVE THE CHAIN TURNING WITH THE USE OF THE HALF STITCH REPEATED TWICE Vinnie: WE NEED THE CHAIN TO ROTATE ON THE CORE THREAD NOW TO POSITION IT BELOW THE 1ST CHAIN AKTATTER: OK Vinnie: AT YOU DO WITH THE 2 SECOND HALVES OF THE DS claudia: k maria alcantara: the 2nd half ofdn´s realy change the direction of tatting... AKTATTER: RIGHT YOU MAY REMEMBER SIMILAR "FOLDED" RINGS/CHAINS DONE IN THE LESSON WITH MARTHA ESS beadntat: gotta link to that lesson??? AKTATTER: http://my.att.net/p/s/community.dll... claudia: yes , i remember the footprint Vinnie: YA, I LEARNED THAT TRICK FROM MARTHAS GREAT SITE AKTATTER: OK GOOD WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE lol Vinnie: CONTINUE TO CHAIN16 Cynthia: it seems similar but the picture of the completed doily sure looks like is is rings not chains and really nice CelticDreamWeaver: Martha is a real sweet person too beadntat: thx.. AKTATTER: THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF IT CYN Cynthia: definitely beadntat: very clever concept for sure Vinnie: WE NOW JOIN TO THE PICOT ON THE RING AKTATTER: OK picotsnkeys: k Vinnie: AND CHAIN 10 Winkerbill: k claudia: you used lock join here vinnie? beadntat: This gives the SCMR a whole new meaning! triple loops! BahmaTerri: .. maria alcantara: . Vinnie: IT'S ALMOST AN ALL CHAINS PATTERN, I'D PLANNED TO NAME IT ALL CHAINS! AKTATTER: WELL YOU COULD! THE FIRST RING COULD BE A SELF-CLSOING MOCK RING INSTEAD! Vinnie: YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOCK JOIN TO THE PICOT, Vinnie: IT'S A SHUTTLE JOIN, claudia: ok Rosemarie: k claudia: that is what i mean Vinnie: SHUTTLE JOINS ABOVE THE CHAIN, LOCK JOINS BELOW THE CHAIN! AKTATTER: THAT IS A GOOD RULE TO REME3MBER beadntat: shuttle joins do lock, just not a "lock stitch" per se AKTATTER: OK Vinnie: I THINK I READ IT SOMEWHERE AND IT HAS STUCK IN MY BRAIN! AKTATTER: LIKE AN APPLE A DAY KEEP THE DOCTOR A WAY! AKTATTER: LOL Vinnie: I THINK A LOCK JOIN IS ONE WHICH LOCKS THE CORE THREAD, YOU CANT ALTER THE TENSION ON IT ANYMORE, claudia: right beadntat: I was thinking twisted, but I got it now.... semantics AKTATTER: RIGHT YOU ARE VINNIE! Vinnie: SHUTTLE JOINS ALLOW THE CHAIN TO CONTINUE WHEREAS THE LOCK JOIN WOULD RESULT IN A DIMPLE! maria alcantara: ..... Vinnie: pLEASE DON'T EAT APPLES... OR I'LL BE GONE!!! beadntat: LOL AK...di you know I am a "Dr." now too? AKTATTER: FOR REVIEW ON THE SHUTTLE LOKC JOIN: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/classes... AKTATTER: LOL AKTATTER: bEAD YOU FINALLY MADE IT?? CONGRATULATIONS! beadntat: yup...3 yrs ago...Dr. Nurse! CelticDreamWeaver: I see AK jumping up and down in JOY AKTATTER: WAY TO GO!! beadntat: It was a miracle I tell you...I was sooooo sick! AKTATTER: HARD WORK ALWAYS PAYS OFF beadntat: yup...endurance is key :-) Never, ever give up...now back to tatting :-) Winkerbill: wait, you've got it backwards Bead.....the Dr is the healthy one and WE go visit when we get sick.... ;-) Winkerbill: (Congratulations anyway) Vinnie: CONGRATULATIONS!!! Cynthia: Contrats Bead that takes a lot of work beadntat: I di the reverse...left the hospital and went back to grad school for the PhD while I was very ill...adn determined Raelara: lol Raelara: wow! maria alcantara: . AKTATTER: OK LET'S GET BACK TO OUR DIAGNOSIS OF THIS SPRING DOILY AKTATTER: VINNIE PLEASE TELL ME IF THIS IS THE RIGHT DIRECTION WE ARE TATTING Winkerbill: wouldn't this look cool in the Lizbeth "springtime" color? AKTATTER: OR DO i HAVE IT BACKWARDS? beadntat: I wish...but no...chronic illness. but I'm making some major changes right now...and tatting and knitting lace to cope AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2010/vi... beadntat: which one is teh springtime??? Lizbeth is still new to me Vinnie: i COULDN'T TELL i'M LEFT HANDE! AKTATTER: VINNIE'S DOILY IS CALLED SPRING Vinnie: WOULD THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE PATTERN? AKTATTER: OK EVERYONE I NEED HELP TO BE CERTAIN ONTHE DIRECTION WE ARE TATTING AKTATTER: PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THE PHOTO picotsnkeys: this pattern strikes me as one that could be done either direction....depending on which hand is holding the needle or shuttle Winkerbill: Springtime has a "spring" green....purple, I think blue, and a sort of pinkish color - variegated. AKTATTER: BUT AT THE FIRST CHAIN Vinnie: I THINK ALL THAT CAN HAPPEN IS THAT YOU GET A MIRROR IMAGE OF MY WORK! AKTATTER: CH 20 VSP 2HS 2HS CH 16 AKTATTER: THE CHAIN WILL TURN TO THE "RIGHT" beadntat: I would think after the lock to R-A we would continue same direction for Ch-D, then vsp. redirect for next ch AKTATTER: WHICH PUTS IT ONTHE LEFT SIDE OF THE FIRST RING? Rosemarie: k Vinnie: OH I'M SO BAD AT LEFT AND RIGHT! beadntat: yup....I think so...as you see it in teh photo Cynthia: . picotsnkeys: your letters match the "in progress" photos that are included in the PDF of the pattern AKTATTER: OK SO IF WE GOT HE OTHER DIRECTION picotsnkeys: except for I and J....they're switched....I think??? AKTATTER: ALL WE WOULD DO WOULD BE SWITCH THE HALF STITCES TO 1HS REPEATED TWICE? beadntat: The first person to do their homework can validate it for us all AKTATTER: I IS THE CHAIN AFTER THE JOIN AT H maria alcantara: yes it happens.....
