AKTATTER: Hello Barb! AKTATTER: iya StephH Winkerbill: hi Georgia! Winkerbill: Hey, before we get started needle tatting....you know that communion cloth edging somebody did....beginner class pattern? Winkerbill: I'm trying to make a bookmark Winkerbill: but am having trouble figuring out how to turn the corner other than just cutting and tying and having 2 'ends' on each end. Winkerbill: any ideas? Winkerbill: tried a cloverleaf, but it sort of warped the "test" end Barb: Hello Winkerbill: hi Barb AKTATTER from x.x.x.247 sent out 5 invitation(s) 7 hours ago AKTATTER: can you link me to the pattern? Winkerbill: ummm....i'll look....i'm sort of doing it out of my head.... AKTATTER: well if I could peek into your head, LOL, I might have an idea for you, but alas, you has best link me to your pattern AKTATTER: I'm going to go see if anyone needs help to get here brb Winkerbill: try this: Winkerbill: http://www.fortunecity.com/millennium/circus/593/communion_cloth_pattern.htm Winkerbill: the catch is that I"m not going around a "corner" exactly, I'm making a 180 degree turn. :-) Winkerbill: brb - got to get my tea. Can't tat without plenty of "t", right? AKTATTER: ok Barb: morning Georgia :) Barb: Well, it's still morning here Oregon Barb: k AKTATTER from x.x.x.247 joined the chat 7 hours ago AKTATTER: back, Steph's link kicked me out of class! Barb: oh no! AKTATTER: that happens sometimes AKTATTER: well Barb did you have any questions today? Needle tatting? Barb: yes it happened to me a couple times last chat. AKTATTER: Oct. 26, 2009 needle tatting session Barb: I think that I'm doing pretty good with it so far Georgia AKTATTER: Georgia Seitz AKTATTER@aol.com Greenup IL AKTATTER: I am so glad to hear that Winkerbill: sorry about that.... Barb: Barb Grainger sonsery@aol.com, Canby, Oregon Winkerbill: Stephanie W in western NC, Barb: Cynthia has helped me a lot. :) Winkerbill: Cynthia inspired me to learn needle tatting.... AKTATTER: Steph I tried to print out the pattern but it has an advertisement over the corner of the edging Barb: I finally 'got' the 'flip' in shuttle tatting too. AKTATTER: for the needle tatting part of this session, we would be refering to thepage by Mark Myers AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2009/MarkMyersdaisypicotsshtlndle.pdf Winkerbill: what I'm doing is R 3-3-3-3, then about 1/4 inch space, then 3-3, another space, another big ring, ....sort of like a hen & chicks except it's big ring, little ring. The little rings are joined 2 by 2...I wanted to turn and go down the other side so there would be 2 long sides of big rings, all joined to each other, and the little rings would be joined in the center in groups of 4. Winkerbill: I studied the needle tatting part of this page for quite a while. Never quite "got" it, though.... Winkerbill: still too new - it doesn't "compute" in my head, even when I'm doing it. Raelara from x.x.x.99 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: the pr4oblem with the needle tatting AKTATTER: is that you have to have the extra needle to make it work Barb: I saw that. Raelara: seems like the main stitches would end up annoyingly loose. AKTATTER: that could be a problem Barb AKTATTER: welcome Jenni AKTATTER: the other problem is that the photo shows Winkerbill: is this something you can sort of "rehearse" with two pencils? AKTATTER: just one pink ds, the daisy picot part of it, when to be effective you need to have several daisy picots Cynthia from x.x.x.14 joined the chat 6 hours ago Cynthia: Hi everyone AKTATTER: you could try out the wrapping, butit is allin the pulling thru of the proper thread to make it work Barb: Hi Cynthia :) Winkerbill: that's kind of what I thought. Winkerbill: hi Cynthia. AKTATTER: hi ya cynthia Barb: So, the picture is wrong? Raelara: not necessarily, Barb Barb: Are you talking about Step 3? Raelara: it just showes only one daisy stitch where the daisy picots look better with more than one Barb: ok Barb: I wish that he'd have shown the finished picture. Barb: It stops with the stitches still on the needle Raelara: G, I don't get steps 3 and 4 of the needle version Raelara: why does he say to remove the second needle in step 3 then continue the row for step 4 AKTATTER: well it is confusing with the needle Raelara: wouldn't removing the second needle make it so you can't do more daisy stitches? AKTATTER: lets look at it AKTATTER: 2 NEEDLES Winkerbill: my biggest problem with needle tatting is in my head - i can't picture it. Mentally, it looks like even after it's done properly, everything is gonna unravel. Cynthia: I had difficulty getting all Marks pictures/patterns to open I get getting an ad... Winkerbill: Then I do it, and it works, and I STILL can't see how it could possibly work..... AKTATTER: TIE THE TWO THREADS TOGETHER Winkerbill: not enough experience yet.... AKTATTER: THREAD ONLY NEEDLE 1 Winkerbill: i got an ad, too - on a lot of them Barb: me too Cynthia. Maybe that's why it's confusing? AKTATTER: USING COLOR ONE WRAP ONS DS Cynthia: good I thought I might be doing something not quite right Barb: There are a lot of pictures on his site that won't come up. I thought that it was just my computer though since it's old. AKTATTER: NOW PUT THE SECOND NEEDLE UP NEXT TO THE FIRST NEEDLE Raelara: THAT is why I was confused! It looked like both needles were going through the green Cynthia: no he has moved his site and hasn't gotten everything to work yet. Raelara: that makes sense now Cynthia: sorry Georgia I'll sit in the corner... AKTATTER: HE IS REINSTALLING HIS SITE Raelara: so the second needle is only left in for each set of pink??? AKTATTER: OK LET'S TRY AGAIN i GOT LOST LOL AKTATTER: THREAD NEEDLE 1 Barb: ahh ok that may be why Raelara: It would have been clearer if he had made a multi-stitch daisy. AKTATTER: DO NOT THREAD NEEDLE 2 AKTATTER: PUT 1 DS COLOR 1 ON NEEDLE 2 meowy from x.x.x.67 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: LAY NEEDLE 1 BEHIND THAT DS ON NEEDLE 2 meowy: hello! AKTATTER: PUT 1 DS COLOR 2 ON NEEDLE 1 AKTATTER: NOW HERE MARK STOPS AKTATTER: I SUGGEST PUTTING 7 PINK DS ON NEEDLE 1 MJB from x.x.x.1 joined the chat 6 hours ago Raelara: I can see it now maria alcant from x.x.x.131 joined the chat 6 hours ago Raelara: thx maria alcant: Hii all.. MJB: Hello Maria Barb: Hi MJB: Hello Barb Barb: Question ? Barb: Is the pink thread supposed to be the Daisy Picot? AKTATTER: YES BARB IT IS Raelara: I think so AKTATTER: HELLO MARIA AKTATTER: HI Y AMARYJANE MJB: Hello Georgia AKTATTER: ONCE YOU HAVE THE SEVERAL PINK DS WRAPPED MJB: Hello Georgia DorcasAnn from x.x.x.12 joined the chat 6 hours ago Winkerbill: ha! Figured it out - turned around 180 degrees and am now going down the other side (with a shuttle....) woo-hoo! :-) Rosemarie from x.x.x.20 joined the chat 6 hours ago Rosemarie: Hi All AKTATTER: PULL THRU THE NEEDLE 1 WITH COLOR 1 ON IT Winkerbill: and i'm already in the corner with a whole pot of tea....figured I'd be in the corner by the end of class anyway, so I just started out there. DorcasAnn: Hi, Mary Jane and AK AKTATTER: THEN USE COLOR 1 THREAD TO WRAP 1 DS ON NEEDLE 2 Winkerbill: <silly grin> AKTATTER: ONCE THISIS SNUGGED UP THE PINK DS PEEK OUT AND THAT MAKES THE DAISY PICOT Rosemarie: Question - is there a site where I can learn to join a new thread when tatting ring and thread with the shuttle? MJB: Hey Dorcas Ann AKTATTER: GREAT sTEPH1!!! Raelara: Jane has some wonderful instructions on her site Rosemarie AKTATTER: YES WE HAVE SEVERAL ILLUSTRATIONS POSTED ONLINE ROSEMARIE AKTATTER: ARE YOU TATTING RING AND CHAIN ROSEMAIRE MJB: They are real nice Geogia Barb: Ahh.. I think I've got it. AKTATTER: OH BY THE WAY AKTATTER: HAVE YOU CHECKED OUT THE NEW SEARCH BOX FOR THE CLASS WEBSITE? Rosemarie: Ok, where can I find them. The one I'm using, paradisetreasures.com is giving me trouble. MJB: no DorcasAnn: the search box is very nice AKTATTER: LET'S GIVE IT A TRY BEFORE THE REGULAR CLASS STARTS IN 8 M,INNUTES AKTATTER: PLEASE GO TO http://www.georgiaseitz.com maria alcant: where? Yeah, I see it, I see it!! AKTATTER: it only searches the class lessons! Barb: It's so nice to type in something and have it come up. Thank you so much for putting the search box on your site!!! Claudia from x.x.x.240 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: rosemarie LET'S TRY IT OUT WITH JOINS Claudia: hi all!! hi georgia maria alcant: yes... AKTATTER: yes that is a permanent feature now meowy: that is sweet :) Raelara: this is the method of adding new thread that I use: http://www.e.n.e.btinternet.co.uk/StartSCMRNoKnot.pdf MJB: thank you Cynthia: fantastic thanks you. maria alcant: is great!!!! i will go after class..I have problems with the split chain needle use Winkerbill: i do too, maria AKTATTER: rosemarie did you find the pages ok? Raelara: Rosemarie, were you asking about adding thread or making joins? Raelara: 'cause I think I interpreted your question differently from G Rosemarie: I meant - as if I were running out of thread working with one shuttle doing a ring and thread pattern. Barb: I was playing with it earlier and at first I thought that it just took me to google. Then I noticed that it did take me to google, but the links were to Georgia's site. Raelara: check the site I posted Raelara: that is Jane Eborall's method and I love it Jenny from x.x.x.14 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: AND TO HIDE ENDS HERE IS THE BASIC INFO http://www.georgiaseitz.com/classes/ends.htm AKTATTER: welcome jenny Winkerbill: I think Mimi taught me how to search just within one website (Georgia's) on google in the beginning tatting class.... Jenny: Hello everyone Winkerbill: but this way is much easier, it's already set up, all you do is type in what you want to find. Claudia: is very useful this search box georgia Cynthia: Georgia the link to Jane's site has a very similar to the magic thread technique just from a different angle AKTATTER: if you are doing just one shuttle work then hiding the ends with the magic loops is probably the best for you AKTATTER: GOO! AKTATTER: GOOD! AKTATTER: THANKS CLAUDIA! Rosemarie: I don't understand how to do that either. Should I make the loop follow the shuttle thread weaving it through each half of the double stitch? AKTATTER: THAT IS IT! Cynthia: I've tried and used both methods and yes Rosemarie meowy: oh i will try that Rosemarie: A very big thank you! AKTATTER: http://www.frontiernet.net/~TammyRodgers/lilys_way.htm Cynthia: both are a bit fiddly until you get the hang of them. I prefer the magic thread technique but also use Jane's technique...both are good to know as they are both very handy Barb: K maria alcant: I can do it with shuttles , but needle is not my best metod.....so wherecan I learn? AKTATTER: http://www.frontiernet.net/~tammyrodgers/lilys_way.html Barb: rats.. link wouldn't work?? AKTATTER: tAMMY'S ILLUSTRATIONS MAKE IT REALLY EASY TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO HIDE ENDS ALSO Rosemarie: Many thanks for you help. maria alcant: donīt vworks G... Claudia: ok maria alcant: no but i can with shuttles maria alcant: yes...sorry the split ring yes AKTATTER: OK TO DO THE SPLIT CHAIN YOU MUST BEGIN WITH A SPLIT RING ONTHE NEEDLE AKTATTER: YOU WRAP THE DS NEEDED UP TO THE PICOT WHERE THE CHAIN WILL CLIMB OUT TO THE NEXT ROW AKTATTER: THEN UNTHREAD THE NEEDLE picotsnkeys from x.x.x.37 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: USE THE TAIL FROM THE NEEDLE'S EYE AKTATTER: TO WRAP THE REMAINING DS NEEDED FOR THE CHAIN AKTATTER: STOP AKTATTER: PUSH THE EYE OF THE NEEDLE THROUGH THE POINT OF ATTACHMENT maria alcant: great!!!!! i will star practicing...... Winkerbill: ;-) AKTATTER: WELCOME! Winkerbill: hi Melanie picotsnkeys: Hi Steph AKTATTER: ASNY QUESTIONS ON THE PAPERCLIP PATTERN? MJB: no maria alcant: no <i ewill do oit AKTATTER: LET'S ALL TRY TO WRITE OUT OUR NAMES AND PUT THEM ON A PAPERCLIP FOR NEXT WEEK meowy: not yet Winkerbill: i think i'm ok with it. picotsnkeys: I've been playing with changing the J to a treble clef. Winkerbill: huh! Yeah, right..... AKTATTER: OH OH MARIA GOT THE DISEASE! Winkerbill: Now THAT would be cool. A treble clef. AKTATTER: SIMPLY SPEAKING AKTATTER: THE SPACE OF THREAD THAT YOU COULD HAVE USED TO MAKE A REGULAR PICOT AKTATTER: RIGHT CLAUDIA Claudia: ok AKTATTER: IS INSTEAD COVERD WITH WRAPPED DS Cynthia: could you hide the thread inside the green ds so you didn't have an end to hide? AKTATTER: BUT WHEN THE NEXT GREEN DS IS DRAWN UP AKTATTER: IT FUNCTIONS JUST LIKE A NORMAL PICOT AKTATTER: IF YOU HOLD BOTH SHUTTLES TOGERHTER WHEN TATTING THAT SHOULD WORK CYNTHIA Cynthia: sneaky and nice at the same time Jenny: magic! Cynthia: good thought AK AKTATTER: OK NOW RIET HAS AN EDGIN TO LOOK AT AKTATTER: http://tat-calendar.blogspot.com/2007/01/january-14-daisy-picot-edging-by-riet.html picotsnkeys: I can see that you have an even harder opening a closed ring if you discover a mistake.....hhmmm...that intimidates lil ole me. lol maria alcant: she is using 2 technics???? Winkerbill: depending on what type of shuttles you use, you may be able to take one of those small silicon "rubber bands" and hold your shuttles together with that. Easy to remove after you've hidden your green end. Cynthia: here's a plug---2 of Georgia's fish shaped shuttles held together would make it easy...just an idea.... Cynthia: good idea too Wink... I like that idea. Will you share how you do it, Raelara? maria alcant: some day i can try that G.... AKTATTER: THAT IS A GREAT IDEA JEN Winkerbill: stick one of those little sticky notes just above (or just before) where you are on the page when you're tatting, you can find your place at a glance, even if you're interrupted AKTATTER: BUT AKTATTER: NOTICE IN THE EXAMPLE BY RUTH Barb: - AKTATTER: THAT THE DAISY PICOTS ARE SEPARATED ONLY BE ONE NORMAL DS picotsnkeys: three chears for post-it notes!!!! Winkerbill: I had one of those huge "toddler size" dolls when I was little. Dressed my sister up in the doll's clothes when she got big enough. Barb: This was so much easier to understand now that I've actually been able to get the 'flip' and do a little shuttle tatting. Cynthia: my little sis wasn't she was terrible crying and fussing all the time...lol Barb: Oh sorry to hear that Cynthia. Winkerbill: got to run. I think I'll go make a really nice dinner for tonight.....got to time things so we're done in plenty of time to catch the evening class. :-) Cynthia: but we do fine together now when we get to visit... Barb: She will post it later too. Cynthia: and only part of that... Cynthia: Hi Jane... picotsnkeys: Hi Jane! Barb: hi Jane Eb: Hi folks Barb: where did everyone go? picotsnkeys: I saw in Mark Myers PDF that he uses two needles for the Daisy Picot. So, I guess two needles can be used at once! Barb: Jane, have you tried Georgia's new search box on her site. It's great! Cynthia: we were talking about your method for starting a new thread picotsnkeys: Sorry Barb, just slow typint Jane Eb: No I haven't - off to take a look!! Jane Eb: Starting a new thread? Cynthia: and some of us need to think then ytpe or type...lol Barb: Yes, I was thinking about two needles the other day. I saw a site with two needles but I didn't book mark it. And I can't remember what they were doing with it. Cynthia: Starting Rings, Chains, Split Rings and SC<R without tying knots picotsnkeys: LOL I do that so, so much.....frustrating! Cynthia: is the one we were using.... Cynthia: http://www.e.n.e.btinternet.co.uk/StartSCMRNoKnot.pdf the link...lol Barb: My computer crashes a lot and if I haven't gone out of aol and closed it down, I'll sometimes lose the bookmarks tht I just saved. Jane Eb: Oh, that's only one way I start without knots. There's another way too - need to draw it up. Barb: That's a nice one Cynthia: I've begun writin g down the urls or at least a way to relocate it... I have lots of little notes...lol Jane Eb: Wonder how Georgia put the search box on? I'll have to ask her. Must be a piece of html code. I WANT ONE TOO!!!!! RuthP from x.x.x.164 joined the chat 5 hours ago picotsnkeys: Hi Ruth Cynthia: that would be nice...I'm often on your site Jane and it would be nice Cynthia: Hi Ruth RuthP: hi all Barb: Nice graphics on that site Cynthia: Ruth loved the daisy pattern...I need to wrok on clunys tho Cynthia: my typing too RuthP: Thanks Barb: I was wondering if there is a class with clunys? Barb: I get the concept, but haven't tried it yet. Barb: I really like the look. Reallly vintage looking. Cynthia: we can ask Georgia to do it again too...I'll try to remember to do that tonight Cynthia: Ruth any hints for us on how to do the clunys that you are so good at? RuthP: practice Cynthia: The link in the pattern isn't working... And hold your mouth right while you do clunys. Barb: Oh yea, forgot that it stays up. Cynthia: oooooooooooohhhhhhhhh sneaky Ruth...I'll email Mimi and see if she has a page of helps that I can get... Barb: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2008/ruthplongringchains.pdf Barb: that one? It worked for me just now. Barb: LOL that reminds me of my Daddy Ruth. Barb: When he was really working hard on a project with his tools he always stuck his tongue out a little bit. LOL RuthP: We lost a lot of good links when Ron passed away, and I know that Georgia is working to get everything back. If you find a broken link it's a good idea to let Georgia know so she can check it out. Cynthia: no the one on clunys that is in the tat-calendar link Cynthia: I will do that too...Ruth didn't think of that right off... RuthP from x.x.x.164 joined the chat 5 hours ago RuthP: Sorry hit wrong button. Barb: Didn't work for me either. The link may be broken? Cynthia: It seems so long ago that we lost Ron and it isn't really that long ago...w/b Ruth Cynthia: good chance Barb and I don't think I have it in my files either :( Barb: I have found a few broken links while going through the sites, but I'm not sure that it's always my the site. sometimes my computer just Barb: won't open pictures. RuthP: I just went and looked for it, and the link on the tat calendar is to the file on Georgia's site, which is indeed broken. Barb: ahh. ok.Thanks Ruth. RuthP: I'll go find it and put it on my blog, tatting.wordpress.com I may have to go to an archive disk to find the file. Check back in a couple of hours, OK? Barb: ok sounds good. Cynthia: yes In will...I actually have one that was done in 2000 by Mimi but it is at the end of a bunch of patterns.... Cynthia: Barb I can send it as a pdf... Barb: Ruth, your tutorial on how to tat large rings is wonderful! Cynthia: it is long and I can't seperate it Barb: I'm just a beginner but it made sense to me. Cynthia: have you tried the awesome BDS? Fun isn't it... Barb: Not yet, I just read about it a few minutes before class. Cynthia: Margaret told me how to do it on a needle too...Glad she knew how...I hadn't tried it yet Barb: But yes, I can tell that it's awesome. I'm going to play with it a little later on today. Cynthia: with the shuttle just wrap it over the loom again ON THE INSIDE of the stitch...lol guess who did it backwards....:) Barb: Now my ears are perked up..Is it different on the needle? Barb: ROFL. sounds like me. RuthP: I was lucky and found it on this computer, so here I posted it for you: http://tatting.wordpress.com/techniques/ Cynthia: no just wrap it first then do the next part.... Barb: thank you Ruth. Cynthia: Thank you Ruth!!! RuthP: NP I'll let Georgia know that it's on there and she can fix her link to the file. Search engines have a long memory! Cynthia: Doug asked where all the ink goes and I showed him 5 3" three ring notebooks....FULL of stuff RuthP: Yes, different on the needle... sort of Barb: my computer is hanging up.. so I might disappear if it quits on me. Cynthia: will you explain it for us. please? Cynthia: I'll save it and send it to you Barb if you disappear RuthP: When Margaret was here we did it and she picked up the difference with the needle. Barb: wow! that's a whole lof of stuff! Barb: I got it Cynthia. I emailed it to myself. :) Barb: brb Cynthia: okay Ruth what is the difference then....I probably messed it up RuthP: Oh that's not a LOT of stuff, you should see Wilma Walker's living room. Picture a good sized room with bookcases for walls, and filled with books, binders, and tubs of all things lace, or needlework with mostly tatting. RuthP: Doing it on the needle, you have to do the two wraps around your finger then put on the needle, but be certain that the extra wraps are on the inside of the stitch. Cynthia: LOL I'm not there yet! but when I started putting it all in notebooks it is an incredible amount of work from Ruth, Mimi, Mark, Shuttle Bros, Jane, Jon, and I'm just getting started,,,lol Cynthia: oh..that makes more sense...lol...I tried to put the loop on first...duh some days... Barb: bk Barb: oh my gosh.. now THAT is a lot of stuff. LOL RuthP: That's OK it's the way I tried to do it the first time when I met someone who was a needle tatter who wanted to learn to do it Cynthia: I thought I had that one Ruth but I didn't but it is now in my file and soon to be in the notebook of helps... Cynthia: glad to hear I was on the right track just not quite right...we all learn by doing Cynthia: wb Barb... RuthP: Would you all be interested in seeing a video of Wilma talking about when she learned tatting? Cynthia: YES Cynthia: of course we would Barb: yes Cynthia: I think just the 4 of us are still here...Barb, Ruth, Jane and me... Barb: I'm so new to tatting that I don't know who she is, but I'd love to see it anyway. RuthP: Sorry I missed the real class, I had a violin lesson. Yes, I've been playing violin for 53 years and decided to take some lessons. Cynthia: there are lots of names I don't recognize but I figure I can learn for someone.... Cynthia: Wow Ruth that is awesome...you can catch us tonight too Barb: Good for you Ruth. There's always room to learn more no matter what we are doing. Cynthia: Beth plays the violin (at least did before college...) RuthP: It will take about 10 more minutes for the movie to finish publishing to YouTube. If you hang around I'll give you the link when it is ready. Barb: wonderful. I'll stay RuthP: You can only see a part of one of the bookcases, but the rest of the walls are pretty much covered too. Cynthia: I sure will.... and yes the snail is still in her checkbook as a good luck charm...lol RuthP: Drug arrest provention? Barb: 'snail'? RuthP: prevention. Typosis. Cynthia: yes and prevention so she doesn't get stopped either...lol RuthP: What? You don't carry a snail in your wallet Barb? Cynthia: Barb go to my blog and read about it... Barb: LOL no... Cynthia: bathroom first... Barb: ok RuthP: Seven more minutes now, time enough for a bathroom break! Cynthia: long story made short...Beth and a friend were stopped and the car was searched for drugs Cynthia: the cop found a bump on the back of the checkbook and knew it was drugs.... Cynthia: when he found only a sober, celtic snail he looked so dejected...she hasn't been stopped since she put a picture on her dashboard of the snail... Cynthia: the snail is still in the checkbook Cynthia: Ruth made her the snail when we stopped on our way to Doug's folks for a visit... RuthP: Life is such fun... Gotta love it when things like that happen! LOL! Barb: Rofl..that was so cute. Cynthia: Beth was terrified...she had no idea why they had been stopped...they had dropped an acquaintence off at a house and were stopped about 2 blocks later... Barb: I can just see that officer's face fall when he found a tatted snail instead of drugs. LOL how funny. RuthP: The thing is that we've all gotten such a good laugh over it all, it's better than drugs! Barb: Sure is Ruth. Cynthia: definately Ruth even Beth and her friend can laugh about it now... Barb: Do you have a link to your little snail Ruth? Barb: I'd like to see this good luck snail. :) LOL Cynthia: Between the snail and the navi-gator she will never have a problem... Barb: My toe hurts. I ran over it with Danny's wheelchair last night and I think I broke it. LOL They dont' do anything for broken toes. Barb: LOL that's funny Cynthia hehee. Cynthia: I'm still refining the pattern but it will go up as soon as I get it done... RuthP: Let me go see... Barb: I told hubby now I'm gonna have to use his wheel chair or his walker to get around today. LOL RuthP: Wilma video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQBpIxWWrFs I haven't tried it yet, so it may be low res til they finish processing it. Cynthia: I don't know if Ruth has posted the pattern or not...she did it freehand when we were there... Barb: oh ok Cynthia: brb--watching video--I'm back it says error processing please try again...lol I forgot to hit send Barb: youtube says error.. try later. RuthP: http://rozellalinden.blogspot.com/search?q=drug sweep snail Here is the snail and the story Cynthia: thanks Ruth RuthP: I'm sure the pattern is out there somewhere... Cynthia: for the video and the link to the picture/story RuthP: Chatzy messed up the link. You have to search for drug sweep snail on the page, not just drug Barb: Cynthia, you should link to the snail maybe?? Barb: dang, site comes up, but nothing on the page except links and stuff on the right hand side of the page. Barb: I might have to switch from IE to Foxfire. Cynthia: we'll find it and try agein...not you Barb... Barb: I can't upgrade to the new IE because they don't make it for windows 2000. Barb: And that's what I'm running on my computer. Barb: It's really old. Cynthia: http://rozellalinden.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html there is the location RuthP: I'm uploading the snail pattern to wordpress blog now. Barb: That worked! Cynthia: you have to surf down a bit to find it Barb: Oh it's so cute! Thank you for the lnk. Barb: You should link to it from your blog Cynthia. RuthP: The pattern is on http://tatting.wordpress.com now Cynthia: Your blog has so much neat stuff on it Ruth...I appreciate it and love to just browse and enjoy the eyecandy... RuthP: Cynthia you can link to the pattern PDF if you like RuthP: I'm working on putting everything more organized on a new site, so right now just adding things for fun Cynthia: I sure will Thanks Ruth...I just saved it and now printing it... RuthP: Talking about computers, I have a new netbook. It's kinda cute. Runs XP now, but I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7 soon. RuthP: I do most of my work on my iMac, but it's nice to have the other too. I'm really wanting to get a new 27" iMac when they are available. RuthP: Well, I need to go let the dogs in and give them their supper. Bye all! Barb: sorry it took me so long. my computer froze again. Thank you for the link to the pattern. You are very generous. Barb: I love your new leaf! I have a fondness for leaves and vines. Cynthia: Let us know how youn like Win 7 Please...We are thinking of upgrading but not sure... RuthP: You're welcome. I just enjoy doing the stuff, sharing is easy. It's writing the patterns that is a pain. Cynthia: leaves vines snails...an interesting combination...lol Cynthia: Tell me about it...I'm trying to get the pattern done for the navigator Barb: Now, see you could do a little scene with leaves, vines and snails. .now wouldn't that be cute? RuthP: Did you try the inside out ring and leaf? Barb: LOL my first shuttle tatting is like a wabbly vine! ROFL Cynthia: Beth wanted a Garmin system and I couldn't afford one so I modified AnneB's dragon to make a Navi-gator Cynthia: now everyone wants the pattern...I'll get it done soon..I did a version with better legs... Barb: Oh Ruth, I'm going to try it. Cynthia: I just found it but haven't had a chance to try it yet... RuthP: Oh how terribly wonderful!!! I taught a 10 year old a few weeks ago and she designed a catterpiller right off. Hint... it's a green chain that is just a few stitches. RuthP: Yeah get to work on the Navi Gator so we can play with it. Barb: Is there a pdf for the new leaft too? RuthP: Not yet... I just did it last night. Barb: Wow.. so we are some of the first to see it. Wahoo! Awesome. RuthP: There is just what is on the web page. But you can print that out if you like. RuthP: Yep the very first other than my DH, Dan. He thinks rope is for climbing rocks, not making lace. RuthP: Gotta go, Tana's getting upset with me for leaving her out so long. What do I think she is, a DOG? Barb: Thank you so much Barb: I'll definately print it off. Barb: They are 'fur kids'. Cynthia: Sobie too and soon I have to get Doug... Barb: LOL Barb: that's waht some of my friends call their dogs and cats. Cynthia: Come back tonight, Ruth...I'll be here Barb: Me too, I'm going to try to come back. This is addicting! Cynthia: Barb I have to go too...Doug and Jan think I'll be giving them a ride home... Barb: Thank you s much Ruth for the patterns. AKTATTER: BY THE WAY Margaret I - N: k AKTATTER: PLEASE LOOK AT THE MAIN CLASS PAGE AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com AKTATTER: scroll down to the lesson links AKTATTER: SEE THE NEW SEARCH BOX? Cynthia: the beginner...sorry I realize you meant needle or shuttle. I learned shuttle first and started needle more recently AKTATTER: THAT SEARCH BOX SERACHES ONLY THE CLASS WEBSITE AKTATTER: TRY IT OUT Barb: I was reading last night and, if I remember correctly, they said to work the first half of the chain, then attach it to the normal place. but leave some room and then tat back AKTATTER: AH THAT IS FOR SHUTTLE TATTING Barb: to the center of the chain. Barb: I"m not sure that I'm saying that right? Barb: I'll have to look at the page again if I can find it. Cynthia: yes but you wrap the stitches Margaret I - N: Georgia, is there an easy way to straighten out a #7 needle that now has a lovely curve in it? Barb: I have saved so many pages that my mailbox looks like it has the chickenpox! LOL nikki: LOL Barb!! Barb: Cynthia. 'wrap' the stitches? Cynthia: Barb shuttle or needle as I'm not thinking clearly... AKTATTER: WHAT DO YOU THINK? Barb: needle AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/nt/needletattingbasics.html nikki: The search box is cool thanks :D AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/nt/needletattingbasicspt2.html AKTATTER: WHENEVER YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE BASICS OF NEEDLE TATTING DOWN, THERE IS A GRADUATION TEST Cynthia: okay look up a bit in the log--Georgia does a fantastic job of explaining it... AKTATTER: YOU GET TWO PATTERMS TO WORK WITHOUT A PHOTO JUST EMAIL ME WHEN READY Margaret I - N: k AKTATTER: MARGARET, MY #7 AND #9 ARE BOTH BENT LIKE FISH HOOKS Cynthia: you don't have to worry about wrap as that is for shuttle tatters... AKTATTER: TAT = DS MADE BY FLIPPING THE THREAD AKTATTER: WRAP = DS MADE WITHOUT FLIPPING THE THREAD nikki: Oh I know... I do have a question... :-) I'm looking for a good pattern that will measure about 3 'x 2' when completed... sort of like a table runner. Debbie: well I do have a question 1. what size thread, 2. what size or kind of needle AKTATTER: PT 2 http://www.georgiaseitz.com/nt/needletattingbasicspt2.html HAS PHOTOS FOR THE SPLIT CAHIN ON NEEDLE Margaret I - N: Georgia, I have 5 ds on my needle, dethreaded, turned needle and five more ds over the eye end. Now what do I do with th eye end? Barb: Got it Cyntha. That's easier than the way that I was reading it last night... Way easier.Thank you. AKTATTER: WOW THAT IS AMBITIOUS nikki: :D nikki: thanks AKTATTER: MARGARET TAKE THE EYE AND PUSH IT THROUGH THE SPOT WHERE THE CHAIN WAS SUPPOSED TO END Cynthia: okay I stand corrected...all needle stitches are wrapped so I was going in a slightly different direction... AKTATTER: THEN RETHREAD THE EYE OF THE NEEDLE MARGARET AND PULL THE THREAD THRU Barb: Yikes! Nikki ..that's a lot AKTATTER: YES ALL NEEDLE TATTED DS ARE "WRAPPED" SINCE THE FLIP DOES NOT OCCUR Margaret I - N: I can't make my needle bend that far AKTATTER: WELL NIKKI WE HAVE A REALLY NICE TATTED SQUARE WHICH WOULD BE GOOD FOR A BEGINNER nikki: It's the whole reason I taught myself how to tat... I want to make a "cloth" to go over a table in our temple. AKTATTER: THE NEEDLE DOES NOT BEND MARGARET Margaret I - N: I just made one ring 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 and then tried to do the split chain. Cynthia: Margaret it will eventually but will still work Barb: I'm so glad to read that you have bent needles too. Mine is getting bent and I thought that I was just too hard on it. nikki: AK... could I join a few of those squares to make it bigger? Barb: But mine's a size 5. Winkerbill from x.x.x.119 joined the chat 74 minutes ago Barb: brb AKTATTER: MARGARET LOOK AT http://www.georgiaseitz.com/nt/needletattingbasicspt2.html THE LAST PHOTO Cynthia: yes Nikki you can Winkerbill: hi everyone nikki: cool! AKTATTER: SEE THE EYE OF THE NEEDLE WAS POKED THRU THE BASE OF THE RING Cynthia: and you can while working on it... AKTATTER: THEN THE NEEDLE WAS RETHREADED AND THE THREAD PULLED THROUGH LIKE NORMAL AKTATTER: YES YOU CAN JOIN AS MANY AS YOU WANT NIKII TO MAKE IT AS LARGE AS YOU WANT AKTATTER: LET ME FIND THAT PATTERN FOR YOU AKTATTER: HEY sTEPH Paule from x.x.x.147 joined the chat 73 minutes ago Winkerbill: hi Georgia Winkerbill: allo Paule Cynthia: Barb note the links from AK you will find them handy Paule: Allo everyone Cynthia: Hi Paule Cynthia: Everyone note the links...sorry...I didn't mean to leave anyone out... I put the eye through a picot nikki: You're the best AK!! :D Barb: rats. the pictures aren't showing up for me on either of those pages. AKTATTER: THE DAIVS PHOTOS ARE LOADING NOW Margaret I - N: Georgia, regular class is about to begin. Do you have any suggestions on how I could do that bookmark pattern that says to use two colours and is essentially one split ring after another with plain rings off on the side? nikki: Barb... she's reloading them Barb: brb Margaret I - N: they began with a knot to join the two colours -- shuttle pattern AKTATTER: THAT IS FINE MARGARET ONCE THE EYE IS THRU THEN RETHREAD IT AND PULL THRU THE THREAD AKTATTER: MARGARET THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE USE OF TWO NEEDLES AT THE SAME TIME Barb: So, then Georgia, you can pretty much join the split chains anywhere you want or need to then? Margaret I - N: I did, the chain goes along the edge of the ring and looks joined at the picot Margaret I - N: but how would you start? in needle tatting, starting with a knot wouldn't work as the rings wouldn't close nikki: that Ice cream cone is ADORABLE!!! :D Margaret I - N: I need the addy for the awareness ribbon nikki: it would be so cute on a birthday card :D AKTATTER: ANY WHERE THE CHAIN WOULD NORMALLY HAVE ENDED OR WITHIN THE REACH OF THE LENGTH OF THE SPLIT CHAIN AKTATTER: YOU CAN GET AD LIB WITH THE NEEDLE JUST BY POKING THE EYE THRU ANY SPOT YOU WANT Cynthia from x.x.x.14 joined the chat 67 minutes ago Margaret I - N: the pattern just plain starts with a two-colour split ring AKTATTER: NO KNOTS MARGARET JUST LEAVE A LONG TAIL Paule: Really? AKTATTER: WELCOME BACK CYN OPEN CHAT CONTINUES 5 MORE MORE MINUTES Cynthia: Margaret use 2 threads of the same color and it will work Barb: ok thanks Georgia AKTATTER: OUI C'EST VRAI PAULE Paule: Eh! bien... Margaret I - N: I haven't the pattern in front of me but it says to leave long lengths to make the fringe ends and begin with this knot to start the split rings. So I just start? AKTATTER: NO MARGARET EVERY PATTERN MAY VARY Paule: J'en ai encore beaucoup a apprendre... nikki: oh... step # 9 (. How to repair an error in a closed ring.) is very helpful! :) AKTATTER: YES JUST START Margaret I - N: Rita Cochrane designed this pattern and was selling it to help her granddaughter raise funds to go to Europe next year to learn about the WW's history AKTATTER: DID EVERYRYONE SEE THE ICE CREAM CONE OK? nikki: I did... so cute!! :) AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2007/edavisavsquare.html Cynthia: yes Sandy from x.x.x.19 joined the chat 62 minutes ago Paule: yes Winkerbill: y krystledawne: ice cream?
