AKTATTER: yes it can be scary to get that blank screen unexpectedly Janet: Hello, I started needle tatting in July. meowy: hi janet! AKTATTER: meowy are you here for needle tatting today? AnneB: Hi Janet! Cynthia: Doge Georgia like Alsakan Blizzards and is trying to share... meowy: yes :) i started in july too AKTATTER: hello Janet susan cuss from x.x.x.157 joined the chat 7 hours ago meowy: i've done some small projects with the needle tatting though Cynthia: I'll be quiet now... AnneB: I'll be keeping quiet and fight with the solar paperclip :-) Winkerbill from x.x.x.61 joined the chat 7 hours ago Winkerbill: hi everyone Janet: If I understood correctly, the Catherine join is a backward join, then a forward join, making it look somewhat like a DS? susan cuss: hi all meowy: hi winkerbill, susan Winkerbill: hi Winkerbill: don't know how long I'll make it - not feeling well today, may have to go back to bed. Cynthia: Sorry you aren't well Wink... Winkerbill: at least nobody can catch it.... susan cuss: hope you're better soon Winkerbill: I'm a lot better today. Yesterday and Saturday I would have had to improve considerably just to die. Today I think I just MIGHT make it.... Winkerbill: :-) AnneB: Sending good thoughts to make you better Steph! Winkerbill: Thanks, ANne Cynthia: definately sending good thoughts your way, Steph Winkerbill: I think I feel better already....thanks everyone. :-) susan cuss: if I wink out, it's because of the storms today and my satellite....hope it holds Cynthia: see good thoughts work... Winkerbill: haven't even picked up a shuttle for 3 days....that tells my husband I'm REALLY sick! susan cuss: lol Winkerbill: brb - need to get a cup of tea and my tatting. AnneB: Did we loose Georgia? Winkerbill: im' back....didn't bring my needle today, just my shuttle. I'll try to listen and behave myself. Cynthia: could be...I have a new Navigator pattern I lkie better...every time I make one I improve it...patter will be awhile yet...as I want it good AKTATTER from x.x.x.227 joined the chat 7 hours ago Cynthia: we Georgia AKTATTER: how revolting that was! Winkerbill: wb Georgia! Cynthia: wb that was supposed to be.... meowy: welcome back! AKTATTER: we are having a wind storm but I did not think it would be a bother online sorry AKTATTER: hello Stpeh Cynthia: we'll survive....and so will you... AnneB: wb Georgia! Winkerbill: 84 degrees and just a light breeze here....sunny....sorry you've got so much wind there. Cynthia: just a moment of brag....Doug took a 1st and a 2nd at the bagpipe competition in Ks this weekend! AKTATTER: ok then take a look at the Catherin Wheel join for shuttle tatting http://www.ds9designs.com/patterns_free.html meowy: yay doug! Winkerbill: oh, cool! Tell him congratulations from me! AKTATTER: congrats! AKTATTER: the principle is placing a ds over a bare core thread Cynthia: I'll let him know AKTATTER: doing it in two steps AKTATTER: and making it look like a regular ds AnneB: That is great Cynthia! AKTATTER: now it you were to look at your tatting needle as if it were a blunt tapestry needle or sewing needle Winkerbill: oh, oh, oh! So it looks like the tatting is coiled and staying in place all by itself? COOL! AKTATTER: you can turn the work over so that the bare spot to make the join is on the right AKTATTER: now you can actually WRAP the ds onto the core thread just as in wrapping a ds in a split ring AKTATTER: but instead of moving the thread to make the wrap AKTATTER: you move the needle, sewing style Cynthia: neat...I learn something new every time I make this class... AKTATTER: you can also do this movement from the front of the work AKTATTER: using the point of the tatting needle AnneB: And I am fighting it with a shuttle LOL maaybe I should pick up the needle again... AKTATTER: to pull thru a loop of the working thread under the core thread and to the other side AKTATTER: just as in making a split chain motion, shuttle style Cynthia: Anne the link has a neat way to the the join with the shuttle AKTATTER: and in the worst case scenario AnneB: Im know - don't like split chains lol AKTATTER: just pul the completed tatting close to the spot to join AKTATTER: just stick the point of the needle into the needle close to the edge and thru to the other AKTATTER: side, make a shoe lace tie and keep on wrapping ds onto your needle Winkerbill: another thing that sound like it's easier to do with the needle. Winkerbill: :-) AKTATTER: this old lessons tell about several joins I believe and you might study them to see how they adapt to needle tatting AKTATTER: www.georgiaseitz.com/2007/sfullerjoins.html AKTATTER: any other questions in general? Janet: Is there a way to make a pico on the opposite side in needle tatting? AKTATTER: how many threads are you using? Janet: one on the ball AKTATTER: for general needle tatting info visit Pam's site http://www.geocities.com/pamela devries/Pam-s-Needle-Tatting-site.html Janet: many of the sites listed are no longer active but thanks anyway AKTATTER: Pam's sis showing right now meowy: i like the pansies on her site AKTATTER: I'm drawing a blank on the right now unless you tat 2x 1hs followed by 2x 2hs and after the lace is off the needle AKTATTER: pull down on the bar to push picot out the other side AKTATTER: if you areusing 2 threads it is easier as then it becomes the maltese or pearl style needle tatting AKTATTER: and you can throw off something on the opposide side of the line of progression in Janet from x.x.x.165 left this message 6 hours ago: not when I clicked on it AKTATTER: needle tatting if you use a second needle AKTATTER: http://www.geocities.com/pamela devries/Pam-s-Needle-Tatting-site.html AKTATTER: try after class in a new window maybe? meowy: i had to google her name to find her site Raelara from x.x.x.84 joined the chat 6 hours ago Janet from x.x.x.165 joined the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: ah I see the link shows differently i nthis classroom window, there is a plus sign between pamela and devries in my link AKTATTER: welcome Jenni Gretta from x.x.x.64 joined the chat 6 hours ago Raelara: hi Gretta: hello all AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/classes2/float/throw2.html AKTATTER: that has some photos whcih may help give you the idea Janet AKTATTER: hi Gretta AKTATTER: is there a last needle tatting question? Gretta: Hi meowy: none here, ty georgia :) Cynthia: That went quick!...where did the 30 mins go? AKTATTER: ok then open chat for 8 minutes cat2tat from x.x.x.68 joined the chat 6 hours ago susan cuss: none here, ty cat2tat: Hi everyone! I had a terrible time making the Josephine Knot with the needlet - any suggestions? Jenny: Hello everyone AnneB: Hi Rosemarie and Jenny! AKTATTER: Rose marie just relaxe and don't fight the twist AKTATTER: becasue you are doing only 1 half stitch repeated AKTATTER: that forces the lace into a natural curve AKTATTER: but it is curving on an immovable object the needle AKTATTER: so just rotate the tatting needle in your hand as the curve forms and follow it Cynthia from x.x.x.14 joined the chat 6 hours ago AnneB: wb Cynthia! Cynthia: sorry my computer froze up when I tried to get the MaryFutcg diwbkiad AKTATTER: Jenni please print off Debbie's page or save it to your computer, do a right click and save target as to speed it up Winkerbill: mine did, too. Cynthia: typos sorry... Cynthia: Fitch Download... Winkerbill: seemed to let me download it after a little while, though.... susan cuss: make it 3 Raelara: Oh, lovely, thanks Georgia! AKTATTER: it is a large pdf cynthia you might want to right click and dave insteaed of opening it online first AKTATTER: save susan cuss: I don't have that option, so will download later AKTATTER from x.x.x.227 sent out 1 invitation(s) 6 hours ago AnneB: Nice patterns! Cynthia: It wasn't even to save yet whe it froze up...I was going to just right click and save then print but just goint ot the link did it....sometimes the computer doese weird things.... Raelara: lol AKTATTER: SHE IS SHARING A VERY SIMPLE BUG PATTERN WITH US TODAY BUT IT HAS A SPECIAL "TWIST" maria alcant: Maria alcantara: famalcan@rodigy.net.mx.....Mexico ???? AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2009/ruthpbug09.pdf AKTATTER: EMAIL ME YOU POSTAL MAILING ADDRESS MARIA FOR THE BLOCK TO aktatter@AOL.COM Raelara: the reverse ring she uses is interesting Dantatter: Does it mean you want tatted stuff like hearts for those quilt squares? AKTATTER: DOES EVERYONE HAVE THE PATTERN PRINTED OR ON SCREEN? Winkerbill: If anybody heard a scream last night.....I got up to go to the bathroom and a HUGE spider ran between my feet....DH had to get rid of it.... Dantatter: Oh I see, I have to put it on myself AKTATTER: ANY DESIGN IS OK FOR THE QUILT Raelara: I had to use a reverse ring on my bocher patterns, but I had to do them differently AKTATTER: YUCK Raelara: couldn't get hers to work Winkerbill: (the "bugs" reminded me....) susan cuss: yes I have it maria alcant: sorry you need my mail adress as soon we finish here... AKTATTER: WELL IUF YOU WANT TO TAT SOEM THINGS AND MAI LTO ME I WILL SEW THEM ON FOR YOU SUZANNE Dantatter: OK thank you very much, I will think it over then because I can not sew Raelara: I have the pattern right here AKTATTER: PLEASE REMEMBER THAT IF RUTH'S PATTERNS SEEM A BIT ODD IN THE METHOD AKTATTER: IT IS BECAUSE SHE OFTEN FINGER TATS HER DESIGN USING A CUT THREAD AKTATTER: AS IN THIS CASE Cynthia: it is easier when doing something cute and small... Raelara: LOL AKTATTER: YES IT IS Raelara: I kinda figured Winkerbill: This pattern reminded me of when I was first learning to tat....I wasn't flipping the DS, which worked ok until I did the NEXT ring and there was this HUGE space that wasn't supposed to be there. Raelara: in my case, I was trying to avoid having to cut the thread a million times AKTATTER: SO WRAPPING NOT TATTING Raelara: I didn't think about wrapping, oddly enough AKTATTER: WRAP 3X 2HS FOLLOWED BY 3X 1HS Raelara: I flipped the work over and tatted from the back side AKTATTER: GOOD ONE JENNI AKTATTER: THEN YOU MAKE THE TWISTED PICOT cat2tat: what is 3x AKTATTER: YOU LITERALLY TWIST THE SHUTTLE THREADSEVERAL TURND AKTATTER: 3 TIMES cat2tat: ok thanks! AKTATTER: MEASURE OUT THE LENGTH OF THE PICOT AND PINCH maria alcant: i did it , i send it already G... AKTATTER: FOLD THE THREAD BACK O N ITSELF AND HOLD ONTO IT UNTIL AKTATTER: THANKS MARIA Raelara: I will have to try this one, it would make a wonderful decoration for Halloween stationery AKTATTER: YOU HAVE TATTED THE NEXT SET OF DS, I.E., 2X 2HS 2X 1HS. Winkerbill: ooh, yes, it would! AKTATTER: WHEN YOU DO LET GO Cynthia: or on a shirt collar... AKTATTER: IT TWISTS UP BIGTIME, SO PLAY WITH IT UNTIL IT LOOKS NICE Winkerbill: maybe a fun pair of earrings for Halloween, too.... AKTATTER: CONTINUE AROUND THE RING DOING A REGULAR PICOT FOR THE "BUTT" AKTATTER: POINT TO WATCH AKTATTER: WHEN YO UCLOSE THE RING Raelara: y AKTATTER: YOU PULL ON THE TAIL NOT THE SHUTTLE THREAD AKTATTER: YOU CAN MAKE A LITTLE SPLIT RING FOR THE HEAD AKTATTER: PUT A BEAD ON EITHER SIDE FOR EYES OR EVEN A BUMP PICOT AKTATTER: ANY QUESTIONS? Jenny: I didn't understand S or Z twist, I just checked which way made the twist tighter AKTATTER: MANY THANKS TO RUTH FOR SHARING THIS WITH US Cynthia: awesome...and thanks to Ruth for sharing AKTATTER: THAT'S THE WAY JENNY meowy: thank you ruth :) Jenny: Thanks Ruth it' a really scary spider, I think my grandsons will be impressed. Cynthia: s twist means the twist goes clockwise on the thread while the z twist it goes the other way...different manufacturers is all Gretta: Thanks Ruth, anxious to try it in needle tatting to see if I can make it work Cynthia: (unless I got it backward...lol) Winkerbill: Jenny the S twist looks like \ (same as the diagonal line of the letter S), the Z twist looks like / (like the diagonal line of the letter Z) Anyway, that's how I remember it. Rosemarie: How do I keep from losing the picot when I make the next stitch? AKTATTER: that is a good way to see it Raelara: that's a pretty easy way to remember AKTATTER: keep your fingernail on the picot Jenny: Thanks I will remember that AKTATTER: ok next AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2009/ellenpclipsun.pdf AKTATTER: Ellen Lai HAS POSTED THE NEWEST PAPER CLIP PATTERN AnneB: I just love the sun! AKTATTER: IN HER MONTHLY SERIES FOR THE CLASS AKTATTER: THIS IS A BRIGHT AUTUMN SUN maria alcant: is great! Cynthia: better way Wink mine is harder to think about AnneB: and the sun was actually shining today, after weeks with rain! Jenny: This will cheer us up in the dark winter months Cynthia: She has done so many neat paperclips! AKTATTER: SHE IS THINKING ABOUT A LITTLE BOOKLET OF DESIGNS FOR PAPERCLIPS EVEN! AKTATTER: THE SUN IS A COILED CHAIN Raelara: a booklet of them would be so cool! picotsnkeys from x.x.x.37 joined the chat 6 hours ago AnneB: Hi Melanie! picotsnkeys: Hi all maria alcant: .... Winkerbill: i realized recently that I "save" bright yellow thread for tatting during the winter months - makes me feel like there's a little more sunshine, I think. During warm weather....and long days....I use lots of other colors. AKTATTER: GOOD POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT FOR DULL WINTER DAYS Raelara: definitely AKTATTER: WE HAVE LOOKED AT COILED CHAINS AND OTHER "BLOCKS" BEFORE IN CLASS AnneB: Bright yellow is for January when the sun returns LOL AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/classes2/blocktat/block.html AKTATTER: and http://www.georgiaseitz.com/classes/padded.html Winkerbill: I noticed last week that I'm digging out all different sizes of yellow threads and putting them within easy "grabbing" reach....and it's still mid-80's and sunny here. AKTATTER: often WE HAVE JUST JOINED USING A SHUTTLE LOCK JOIN Cynthia from x.x.x.14 joined the chat 6 hours ago Janet from x.x.x.165 left the chat 6 hours ago AKTATTER: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/classes2001/shtljoin.html AKTATTER: THIS MAKES A DEFINITE "DIMPLE" IN THE WORK HOWEVER Cynthia: sorry my dog jumped on the desk and away went my picture as she stepped on the mouse... AKTATTER: SO USING THE CATHERINE WHEEL JOIN MAKES A SMOOTHER LOOK AKTATTER: http://www.ds9designs.com/patterns_free/CatherineWheelJoin.pdf AKTATTER: THIS IS A GOOD LOOK AT THE CW JOIN AND I KNOW THAT JANE HAS ONE POSTED TOO Raelara: so, essentially it is a split chain stitch used as a join? AnneB: yes AKTATTER: YES IT IS BASCIALLY Raelara: I think I can handle one split chain stitch! AKTATTER: GREAT!! Cynthia: that sounds scary but the diagrams and directions don't look so scary picotsnkeys: k AnneB: The scary part is that this pattern is making me having a friendlier look at split chains... Raelara: more than one at a time makes me nutty AKTATTER: SO THE TATTED CHAIN COILS AROUND AND YOU JOIN AT INTERVALS (SEE THE DIAGRAM) Cynthia: all of us have scary tatting concepts that make us silly Winkerbill: oh, see, I don't have that problem. I'm already nutty. :-) Jenny: That looks really neat AnneB: LOL AKTATTER: WHEN IT IS BIG ENOUGH THE LAST PASS AROUND THE COIL WILL JOIN TO THE PAPER CLIP TWICE AKTATTER: JUST PRETEND THE BEND OF THE PAPERCLIP IS A PICOT AND JOIN! Winkerbill: What amazes me is that a year or two from now, the things that intimidated me ....well, I'll probably wonder just what was so hard about them.... AKTATTER: THEN THE CHAIN CONTINUES OUTWARD TO MAKE THE SUN'S RAYS AnneB: And I have to make this twice in DMC 80 - for earrings... AKTATTER: THAT IS SO TRUE STEPH! Cynthia: I second that Steph...I actually learned how to do split chain this summer! it was a challenge Winkerbill: last year it was split chains and Cluny.... Winkerbill: This year it was pearl tatting and then maltese rings.... meowy: i've got to practice sticking it to the paperclip, my previous tries on other paperclip makes it all flop over AKTATTER: YOU CAN SEE THE PHOTO Cynthia: cluny wasn't so scary but the split chain was a bear...but now I wonder why it took my 5th brain cell so long to figure it out... AKTATTER: THE CHAINS HAVE THE BARS ON ONE SIDE FACING OUTWARD Winkerbill: hehehehe, meowy, when all else fails, stiffen it with lots of white glue. meowy: oo hehe good idea! AKTATTER: AND THE OTHER SIDE OF A POINT THEY MAY FACE OUTWARD TOO OR Winkerbill: cluny wasn't scary, really, i just couldn't get my tallies to look right. maria alcant: i have ti try it several times... AKTATTER: THEY CAN FACE INWARD ALL YOU NEED TO DO TO CHANGE THE DIRECTION Cynthia: also join the paperclip in at leat 3 spots helps AKTATTER: IS A LOCK STITCH Winkerbill: and make it a really TIGHT join.... picotsnkeys: how about padding with a stiff thread....like thin fishing line? AKTATTER: OR RW AKTATTER: SURE EVEN USING A DOUBLE CORE THREAD OR WIRE Winkerbill: padded tatting, that might make a really cool looking sun AKTATTER: THE RAYS ARE SHUTTLE LOCK JOINEED TOTHE PICOTS ON THE LAST PART OF THE COILED CHAIN picotsnkeys: or adding a sparkle filament? Winkerbill: and if you WRAP it instead of flip it...you could use glow-9n-the-dark thread.... Winkerbill: with something smooth inside the core. AKTATTER: OR MAYBE ADD IN A GLITTER THREAD FOR THE RAYS AKTATTER: GOOD IDEA! ONLY THE SUN USUALLY DOESN'T SHINE IN THE DARK..... picotsnkeys: ooooo do I have a free shuttle???rats! AKTATTER: ANY QUESTIONS? meowy: hehe meowy: nope none yet :) AKTATTER: MANY THANKS TO ELLEN FOR SHARING ANOTHER CHARMING PATTERN OF THE MONTH Winkerbill: depends on which side of the earth you're on. When it's dark here, people on the OTHER side have no problem seeing it.... <wicked grin> meowy: thank you ellen! AnneB: Um - if you are out in space - the sky is dark LOL AKTATTER: OK LET'S LOOK ATT HE MARY FITCH #6 BOOK AKTATTER: LOL AKTATTER: I WOULD LIKE TO DRAW ATTENTION TO PAGE 4 maria alcant: no!!!! it looks like....not like a sun jajaja AKTATTER: FIGURE 7 AKTATTER: EDING AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF THE PAGE AKTATTER: :) AKTATTER: THIS IS ONE SHUTTLE WORK BUT VERY DENSE Dantatter: Oh that is cute, lol Rosemarie: Question abou the bug. How am I supposed to close this ringwhen I have made all unflipped stitches? AKTATTER: IF YOU LOOK AT THE PHOTO AND THEN READ THE DIRECTIONS IT APPEARS OFF AnneB: Pull the tail, not the shuttle, Rosemarie Winkerbill: pretend the "tail" thread is your shuttle thread and pull that one. Jenny: What is the link for the |Msary AKTATTER: IF YOU TURN THE PHOTO AROUND 180 DEGREES AND THEN FOLLOW THE PATTERN IT IS RIGHT ON Cynthia: you pull the end not the shuttle Rosemarie...I missed that too Raelara: wow AnneB: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/public/MaryFitch6.pdf AKTATTER: USE THE TAIL TO CLOSE THE RIGN ROSEMARIE NOT THE THREAD YOU WERE WRAPPING WITH maria alcant: thanks Anne! AKTATTER: SO THE PATTERN IS Cynthia: backward from the picture.... Rosemarie: Nope, it's ceased up! AKTATTER: SMALL RING MED RING SMALL RING MED RING SMALL RING BIG RING WITH LOTS OF PICOTS Winkerbill: that happens to me often , especially when using patterns from "vintage" books. Just thought it was cuz I'm dyslexic..... Jenny: Thanks AKTATTER: THERE MAY BE A SMALL KINK IN THE THREAD ROSEMARIE Cynthia: you probably have a stitch that flipped Rosemarie AKTATTER: THAT OFTER HAPPENS WHEN DOING ONLY A HALF STITICH IN REPETITION Winkerbill: So it might be the picture that's flipped, not my weird way of seeing things, then.... Cynthia: or Georgia may be right too I've fhad both problems AKTATTER: YEP THE PHOTO IS FLIPPED STEPH Rosemarie: OK, I'll have to start again. AKTATTER: BUT I HOPE SOME OF YOU WILL TRY IT OUT BEFORE NEXT WEEK Raelara: I think the segment of lace shown starts at a different point in the pattern than the written pattern, or something Cynthia: I find doing wrapped stitches sometimes I get a flip even when I think I'm being careful Raelara: G, do you remember that pattern you asked us about before, with the chains that looked like hexagons? Winkerbill: Can't remember which book it was, but I did a similar edging a couple years ago....very dense, but all 1-shuttle....and all the rings were fully closed on that one. Made a great edging on some faceclothes..... AnneB: I have a feeling I need to empty the shuttle after making the sun - I might ave a go at it. meowy: buy more shuttles anne, then you can just fill them up picotsnkeys: he he Raelara: you can never have too many shuttles AKTATTER: YES JENNI? meowy: hehe Raelara: I think I figured it out AKTATTER: PLEASE ALSO LOOK AT PG 5 Winkerbill: no matter how many shuttles you have, there's never one around (empty) when you need it.... :-) They all are attached to projects and UFOs AKTATTER: OH THAT IS WONDERFUL!! I WIL LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING ABOUT IT meowy: i really like the p5 ones Dantatter: lol Meowy AKTATTER: OK PG 5 FIGURE 9 AND 11 AKTATTER: BOTH THESE TWO PATTERNS USE ROLL TATTING AKTATTER: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~nickeb/RollTat.pdf AnneB: LOL - I have lots of bobins - just don't need the thread on this :-) Raelara: is that what makes the large rings so narrow? AKTATTER: THERE IS A GOOD ILLUSTRATION OF ROLL TATTING Winkerbill: roll tatting....THIS year's intimidating thing....mine never comes out looking right. AKTATTER: THE ROLL IS SIMPLY PASSING THE SHUTTLE THREAD OVER AND UNDER THE CORE THREAD MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT FLIPPING A DS picotsnkeys: sounds tricky for twist AKTATTER: IT IS AWKWARD Winkerbill: I think somehow I can't hold everything all at once, and that's why it comes out looking bad. Winkerbill: Need to grow a bigger thumb? AKTATTER: I START AND STOP MINE WITH A DS WHICH I THINK HELPS IT TO CLOSE BETTER AKTATTER: WRAP SOME ROLLS STEPH THEN TIGHTEN THEM UP AND MOVE UNDER THE THUMB INTHE PINCH meowy: ooo learn something new to bookmark hehe Dantatter: It looks like tatting done by someone who learned to tat an hour ago in my humble opinion AKTATTER: KEEP HOLDING IT LIKE A LITTLE OREO COOKIER SANDWICH UNTI LREADY TO CLOSE meowy: hehe dantatter! AKTATTER: LOL SUZANN YOU MAY HAVE A POINT Winkerbill: I like the way it looks....at least in the pictures in the books.... AKTATTER: WE WILL LOOK INTO THIS BOOK MORE NEXT TIME ALSO. AKTATTER: OK ANY LAST QUESTIONS FOR TODAY? Winkerbill: just don't like the results I get when *I* do it. :-) Dantatter: OK then I will try to study it before next Monday AKTATTER: THIS LESSON REPEATS TONIGHT AT 8:30PM et NEEDLE TATTING AT 8PM ET (NEW YORK TIME) AnneB: Think I'll stay with fighting the Cathrine Wheel Joins LOL Cynthia: we all think that way Steph... Raelara: how do you make the picots if all you do for the rings is roll?? susan cuss: thank you so much! Winkerbill: adds another dimention of texture to tatting.... picotsnkeys: more to play with....when's recess? Dantatter: Thanks for the class, AK Cynthia: I think they sneak in a couple ds in the roll to do the picots AnneB: Thanks Georgia! Raelara: ah, that makes sense Winkerbill: Thanks Georgia. I probably won't make it to class tonight....I'm trying to shake off this "bug" or whatever it is I've got. picotsnkeys: Thanks Georgia! Winkerbill: bye everyone. Cynthia: Thanks Georgia Gretta: Enjoyed the class, thanks. ============================================================ Created at Chatzy.com The Online Tatting Class http://www.chatzy.com/695768390662 Transcript as of Tue Sep 29 01:49:45 2009 GMT (151 KB) Page 2 of 4 - Char 51281 to 102405 - Newest entries at the bottom ============================================================ Winkerbill from x.x.x.61 left the chat 5 hours ago maria alcant: Thank you G....I have a lot to tatt.. Raelara: so, G, with that other pattern, the hexes?? meowy: thanks georgia, everyone.. see you all soon :) Jenny: THanks Georgia, bye everyone Dantatter: oh lucky Anne, where to this time ? Rosemarie: Can this lesson be done with the needle, because I'm not getting anywhere with the shuttle Raelara: the puzzle was that the picture was flipped a quarter turn AKTATTER: THANKS ALL FOR STOPPING BY SAFE JOURNEY ANNE I'LL BE SUBSTITUTING IN THE BEGINNERS CLASS NEXT WEEK TOO Cynthia: yes Raelara what about them? AnneB: Nord-Troms - and there might be icy roads - yay! AKTATTER: ANY LESSON WE POST CAN BE DONE WITH THE NEEDLE AS WELL AS WITH THE SHUTTLE AKTATTER: YES JENN? picotsnkeys: ah...quarter turn...that makes sense Raelara: if you turn the picture 90 degrees counter clockwise and flip it, then you see the way it should be Cynthia: yes it can Rosemarie...most patterns can be done Cynthia: with both Dantatter: Oh not abroad this time AKTATTER: OH OK I WILL TRY THAT Raelara: you do a row of 5ds picot 5ds Raelara: then put a picot in the core thread picotsnkeys: doing the sun with needles will make padding and sparkle easier IMHO Raelara: for each hex AnneB: Nope - Not that far, but needs to sleep over and there are few hotels... AKTATTER: ROSEMARIE IF YOU NEED SPECIFIC HELP WITH A PATTERN JUST EMAIL ME A LINK TO THE PATTERN AND WE CAN WALK THRU IT OR BRING IT TO CLASS NEXT TIME Cynthia: Melanie and Anne can you stay a bit? others too if theywant Gretta: As a needle tatter of at least 10 years, I can say I've never found a shuttle pattern that couldn' AnneB: Sure! Dantatter: Mr. Obama is coming to Copenhagen on Friday so it is chaotic here right now, lol Gretta: couldn't be done on the needle picotsnkeys: yes for a few minutes Raelara: then reverse work for the next row Cynthia: or Rosemarie bring it before class on Thursday.... AKTATTER: RIGHT YOU ARE GRETTA,ALTHOUGH SOME PATTERNS WILL REQUIRE TWO NEEDLES AKTATTER: THAT IS NEAT SUZANNE AnneB: Ah - good thing I'm not going to Denmark then LOL Gretta: You are so right Dantatter: lol and expensive, AK Raelara: the short sixth sides turn out to be the picots in the 5p5 pattern, where one chain is joined to the other Raelara: am working on an example, then I will send you the pic Cynthia: and some are easier with one than the other but both work picotsnkeys: looking forward to seeing that Rosemarie Dantatter: No I don't advice anyone to go to Copenhagen this week but Aarhus is OK and peaceful as usual, lol AKTATTER: OK HAPPY TATTING ALL BYE FOR NOW Cynthia: I'm thinking about a celtic knot... AKTATTER from x.x.x.227 left the chat 5 hours ago Gretta: I had never used beads, but this week I tatted Jane Eborall's sunflower (used 2 needles) and it turned out very nice Rosemarie: I have been using just one shuttle - is that the problem? Cynthia: bye AK picotsnkeys: Bye Georgia maria alcant: bye G Cynthia: on what Rosemarie? I missed something AnneB: LOL - I'll need to take an extra day or two next time I'm in Copenhagen then Rosemarie: On the bug pattern picotsnkeys: dang autofill....I meant Raelara Jenny from x.x.x.14 left the chat 5 hours ago Raelara: oh, the picture? Raelara: It is pretty cool looking Dantatter: If you ever come to Jutland please do let me know, ok ? Cynthia: oh no the bug is just 1 shuttle AnneB: If I get quiet for a long period, I'm fighting another CWJ Raelara: kinda looks like fish scales right now Cynthia: or just a short piece of tatting thread and finger tat too Raelara: I think the hex look must have come from blocking Cynthia: probably did on the hex pattern Raelara: but it makes me wonder what it would look like as a mermaid tail Dantatter: Next September Jneni from Australia will be visitng me, probably, I do look forward to that AnneB: That's nice! Cynthia: oooohhh that would be interesting... Dantatter: Yes I can hardly wait Cynthia: and having company is always fun and exciting Raelara: Although I am not sure I would be able to plan a mermaid pattern very well AnneB: I'll try attending the Swedish-Danish get-together one year Dantatter: I visited her in 2006 so it will be good to get her up here Cynthia: I've seen one...check Jane Eborall's tatting patterns I think that may be where. AnneB: I hope I'll be able to go to Australia in 2012 - there is a solar ecloise there ... Cynthia: if not I'll see if I can find the pattern...email me your addy...brasthatfit@yahoo.com Dantatter: Maybe we should see if we could coordinate it sometime, if they meet here in DK I could see if I was able to come too and we could meet AnneB: eclipse Raelara: raelara@gmail.com Raelara: anyone here on facebook? Cynthia: oh Anne it makes me jealous just thinking about it! maybe if I save my pennies (and all the others too) I could go...lol Cynthia: I am and I think we are friends there too Dantatter: I saving so I can go there again soon, I had a spendid time with her and her partner, they treated me like family AnneB: I visit Expreimentarium from time to time, not sure when next time AnneB: I'm at facebook, but posts in Norwegian there Raelara: I don't think I have you Cynthia Raelara: I have G, Jane, and Claudia Dantatter: Anne let's keep in touch about when you'll be in DK, maybe we could make it happen to meet Cynthia: I can be jealous and not be mean I'm actually happy when my friends get to travel picotsnkeys: Maybe you could find a tatting reason for astronomy or vice versa Cynthia: I'll check too and maybe we can connect... AnneB: Sure Suzanne! Raelara: stevenson?? Cynthia: yes Raelara: that your last name, Cynthia? Dantatter: Do you fly when you go to DK or do you take the boat from Oslo ? Raelara: k AnneB: LOL - We are two Anne tatters in Tromsų, both are in the board of the local astronomy club Raelara: found you on G's list Dantatter: It is confusing, lol Cynthia: yes Raelara...oh AnneB: If it is job, I fly, If it is vacation I take the boat AnneB: And we both fold paper squares (origami) Dantatter: OK we will work something out someday Cynthia: what a neat thought 2 tatters with similar interests...good taste happens... picotsnkeys: I promised my kids I'd leave Facebook for them. I check it every once in a while, but I'm trying to prove to them they can trust dear old Mom so they act trustworthy. Cynthia: are there 2 of you Anne? A clone...lol Dantatter: You also do some awesome knitting - those scarves on your blog are amazing picotsnkeys: I agree! AnneB: Not clones, the other one is a biologist, I am a physicist/astronomer Cynthia: she sure does...our Anne is a very talented lady.... Cynthia: I'm missing next week (8th) too if I get back I'll let Georgia and Mimi know but may just let them do the class and lurk AnneB: Work sometimes interferes with tatting Suzanne! Good luck on your new job! picotsnkeys: Yes, good luck on the job! Pack your boots! Cynthia: of course we can also get nasty weather but the work still has to be done...lol picotsnkeys: LOL Cynthia: We leave Saturday and get back when we get here...that's as close as I know... Cynthia: we hope to be back Thursday but late...it could be longer... AnneB: Do you have to find all of the trees? Cynthia: yes they were in experimental plantings done in the early 1990's picotsnkeys: Or just the ones on a list? Cynthia: we do have the general locations. We know 1 is now a subdivision so probably not many of the trees survived that... picotsnkeys: Are you allowed GPS? AnneB: Hm someone have made a knot on my ball thread - how did that happen? Oh - that's right I'm fighting CWJ-s picotsnkeys: LOL Cynthia: No GPS in 1990 but we have a map of the plantings and we know where they are supposed to be...lol picotsnkeys: 19 years is a lot of growth.....good luck! Cynthia: one was partially clearcut for a fire danger mitigation project but so geos life picotsnkeys: I've just about finished prepping for the workshop I'm teaching at the Lace Museum. I need to take stock of UFO's picotsnkeys: I dislike clear cut. It always makes me cry! AnneB: Good thing trees don't pick up their roots and walk away LOL Cynthia: the trees were about 6"tall when planted and now between 14 and 25 feet for most of them picotsnkeys: LOL picotsnkeys: Evergreens? Cynthia: there are reasons for clearcut but not many and it has been overused in the past Hope Green from x.x.x.93 joined the chat 5 hours ago Hope Green: anyone here? Cynthia: We got a water softener and it sure helps with the hard water here...I can actually drink water from the tap--at least some without doing the bottled water concept Cynthia: drat that reminds me I didn't get the kilt to the dry cleaner... AnneB: I'll need to go to bed soon - see you all in week - eh - make that two weeks! picotsnkeys: We have a water distiller to make distilled water. RuthP: Ah provoking. hmmmmm OK Cynthia: and FUN too! AKTATTER: OK USE A CUT PIECE OF THREAD, WRAPPED 3X 2HS FOLLOWED BY 3X 1HS AKTATTER: THEN GRASP THE THREAD TO MAKE THE PICOT AND TWIST IT Jon: The unflipped stitiches makes sense, easier to make the twisted picots. AKTATTER: CHECK YOUR THREAD TO SEE IF IT TWISTS CLOCKWISE, S TWIST RuthP: Easier to twist on a shuttle, and I really did use a shuttle on this one AKTATTER: OR COUNTER CLOCKWISE, z TWIST Claudia: what means grasp? paule: aH AH!! AKTATTER: HOLD Wally: agarrar Claudia: thanks g AKTATTER: MEASURE OUT THE LENGTH OF THE PICOT AND PINCH THAT SPOT paule: This whole part is verey very DEEP Claudia: gracias wally AKTATTER: FOLD THE PICOT BACK ONTO ITSELF AND KEEP IT TIGHT IN THE PINCH Wally: I didn't understood the part of the 1/2 stitches. Are we doing like victorian sets or zig zag? AKTATTER: WRAP THE NEXT SET OF STITCHES, 2X 2HS FOLLOWED BY 2X 1HS AKTATTER: RIGHT A SET OF 3 SECOND FOLLOWED BY 3 FIRST, TWISTED PICOT SET OF 2 SECOND FOLLOWED BY 2 FIRST RuthP: Me confused.. I just did second half first first half second and tatted unflipped stitches AKTATTER: AT THAT POINT YOU CAN LET LOOSE THE TWISTED PICOT AND AN FUSS WITH IT TO MAKE IT LOOK GOOD RuthP: Like in a split ring AKTATTER: THAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT RUTH AKTATTER: RIGHT AGAIN RuthP: OK Hope G: a fussy picot... never heard of such Wally: ah, I understand now. Jon: Ha .. 1/2 stitches. so you are making the picots sort of curl out from the centre. I hope you get what I'm tyring to say. AKTATTER: WELL THE DIRECTIONS DO SAY 3 HALVES AND 3 HALVES BUT IT COULD BE THAT YOU REALLY MEANT RuthP: Sorry hope it came out of my sick mind way back when the Order of the Phoenix came out harry potter book Hope G: but itis awesome gorgeous in the photo Wally: I call those twisted picots "evil" picots. They happen naturally to me often AKTATTER: 3 COMPLETE DOUBLE STITCHES BUT IN REVERSE STITCH ORDER RuthP: I tatted a phoenix with twisted picots for flames off the tail AKTATTER: WHICH EVER WAY IT IS DONE I THINK IT IS THE TWISTED PICOTS FOR THE LEGS THAT MAKE IT "FUNKY" Wally: Oh! Phoenix are so pretty Hope G: Wow AKTATTER: OHH GOT A PHOTO TO SHARE? RuthP: It's on one of my blogs somewhere RuthP: I'll go look... Wally: We can make a spider with 4 picots on each side, right? Hope G: with fussy picots Marie Smith: I like the sound of the Phoenix Wally: Or place a bead on the bug's butt. lol Hope G: what color thread for the phoenix Wally: lol AKTATTER: THE LAST LITTLE RING FOR THE HEAD CAN BE JUST SPLIT RING AND PUT BEDS ON IT FOR EYES Jon: Wow Ruth.
