My hands and part of my mind have been kidnapped, I am knitting a shawl at the moment - the pattern just yelled KNIT ME! Cynthia: The first one I managed to join each adjacent picot even on the last round...it looks good just not exactly like the pattern Cynthia: I'd love to see the shawl Anne. I also knit and crochet AKTATTER: sometimes it is hard to resist AnneB: I did the centre of a poppy and realised I'd need to reconsider my choise of thread for the blue part. Cynthia: Is there some info we are supposed to send with the poppies? Cynthia: thread kind and size or anything? AKTATTER: nothing at all just the poppies AKTATTER: they are used for the table decorations, for awards, for teachers gifts Cynthia: I'm going to do some in size 80 for earrings...I think they will be cute with solid centers and variagated edges and vice versa... Cynthia: Anne do you cant to chat a bit or are you busy? maria alcantara: Bye all!!!! Marie Smith: Thank you and bye all! AnneB: I can chat a bit AnneB: I think I'll be able to keep track og the poppy pattern printout this time Cynthia: I really like the poppy pattern. and I only did it with Mary's variation...other than my oopses AnneB: As I started 2.nd row in class I did not pay attention and think ahead LOL AnneB: Now I know to start 2.nd row at the ring Cynthia: I miss the number of stitches...3 instead of 2 or 4 instead of 3 or joining all the adjacent picots including row 3 Cynthia: make than row 4 AnneB: I'm allmost done with row 3. Cynthia: But they all look good. I didn't have a tatter look at them.... but my kids didn't find the mistakes/ pattern variations Cynthia: I'll scan them before I mail them tomorrow AnneB: I had planned to use Opera no 20, but even though the gold thread had the same thickness it turned out larger. Cynthia: my gold thread is a lot bigger than Lizbeth 20 so I just used a pretty yellow AnneB: As Georgia said: No fowers are excacly the same. Cynthia: good thing...but I was trying to follow the pattern! not free tat it...lol AnneB: I have figured out that if I use a small picot at the 1st row rings it will work with DMC perle cotton no8 that I'm using Cynthia: When I send things to other tatters I want it perfect...not just good enought AnneB: I know the feeling. Cynthia: My shoulders are sore I had to mow the lawn today it was getting almost 10" tall from all the rain AnneB: I saw some tatting from another tatter Saturday 16th and it was sooo even! Cynthia: I like to keep it about 2" I can see what I'm stepping on Cynthia: Some tatters can make it so even....mine is reasonably even but not like some I've seen AnneB: Mow the lwan? Oh - yes! It is starting to turn a bit greenish - LOL AnneB: lawn Cynthia: yes here spring green up started in early march...I've only had to mow about twice a month AnneB: The trees are green now, but the leaves are not fully grown yet Cynthia: but lately every 7-10 days.... AnneB: Well, guess there are some advantages with a snow cover :-) Cynthia: The spring bulbs bloomed in early March this year....but Oklahoma has long summers... Cynthia: They are predicting we'll be in the low 90's later this week... Cynthia: Time to crank up the air conditioner...and shut the windows again until mid September AnneB: LOL things are different! Cynthia: Then we'll have about 6 weeks where we don't need either the air conditioner or furnace Cynthia: I miss a bit longer winter...crazy me but Iived in north central Idaho where spring doesn't get there until late April AnneB: I usually don't have to worry about airconditioner. Cynthia: more like your area than here I think... AnneB: Spring in late April? Sounds more like here. Cynthia: yes I was thinking it was closer to what you have...Oklahoma can be so very hot and humid AnneB: Today is windy with some rain and 9 C AnneB: I told you I was knitting, I just posted a closeup of the shawl on my blog: http://nuperelle.blogspot.com/ Cynthia: My garden is about done for the year...spinach and chard are about to bolt.... so I'll be stopping watering it soon Cynthia: brb going to look AnneB: This is the pattern: http://pinklemontwist.blogspot.com/ AnneB: LOL plants for eating have not started growing yet! Cynthia: I'll have to get that pattern...it is so pretty AnneB: It is! Cynthia: I'll replant in Sept and we'll get some more veggies before winter.... AnneB: I love using beads in knitting. Cynthia: I love spinach and chard... Cynthia: I've never thought of adding beads to knitting.... AnneB: Ah - you have two summers then Cynthia: to do that you have to be smarter than the yarn and beads... AnneB: I use ta say that we have a effective summer - it starts later and finishes sooner than other places. Cynthia: well most of the summer is over 95 degrees and trying to keep everything watered is a challenge...I know there are some things that will survive the hot I just don't plant them...lol AnneB: The way Melanie is adding beads is perfect - you don't thread them on the yarn before starting AnneB: You just pull the stitch through the bead before knitting Cynthia: I grew up with chard and spinach and beet greens with tiny beets not the big ones that are common in the stores now AnneB: Just like adding a bead to a picot before joining Cynthia: I'll have to try that...It sounds like a fun way to change the knitting Cynthia: I started knitting when I was 8 so I can almost do that without thinking. Crochet took longer Cynthia: and I know why...my mom held her hook differently and I could not get the hang of it... AnneB: I think I started crochet first, but only - um - chains? Without using the hook only fingers Cynthia: one day I grabbed the hook like a knitting needle and put it to work....she said I didn't crochet pretty AnneB: LOL But I have seen people hold the hook as a knitting needle here too. Cynthia: she looked elegant crocheting but I looked less elegant...lol I can't think of the right word... AnneB: Do you still hold the hook like that? Cynthia: yes. I never managed to hold the hook and look elegant...I think that is why I love tatting...I look elegant tatting AnneB: If the result loos as it should, you ar holden the hook correctly no matter how you look :-) Cynthia: lol isn't it funny how we see ourselves thru others eyes...my mom said I looked elegant tatting but look industrious crocheting.... AnneB: I prefere tatting to crocheting because I don't have to pay that close attention to where the shuttle goes Cynthia: I enjoy doing anything to keep my fingers from getting stiff from just sitting AnneB: I have to consentrate on the hook Cynthia: me too Cynthia: the shuttle just knows where to go...lol Cynthia: I do need to go...I have to get the yard edges trim work done before the evening session and it takes Cynthia: awhile for me to do that... AnneB: Ok. I'll finish the poppy - yep - the pattern is still there LOL Cynthia: bye and see you Thursday... AnneB: See you on Thursday! Bye! Angela from x.x.x.154 joined the chat 71 minutes ago AKTATTER: ok the 3 large rings are done first then you move to the next round with the split ring and mock picot AKTATTER: the next smaller split ring takes you to the chain AKTATTER: thenyou do ring and chain repeat all around until the last chain AKTATTER: you tat the chain half way AKTATTER: you stop where the picot would have been AKTATTER: unthread the needle AKTATTER: use that thread from the eye of the needle to wrap the ds needed AKTATTER: stick the eye of the needle through a point of attachment AKTATTER: in this case AKTATTER: it could be through the base of the ring AKTATTER: or the first ds of the chain AKTATTER: thread the needle again AKTATTER: and pull thru AKTATTER: that brings you back to the middle and you move into the next round AKTATTER: with a mock picot AKTATTER: follows by a split ring AKTATTER: now which part gave you trouble? Cynthia from x.x.x.211 joined the chat 51 minutes ago Angela: mine is up and ready to print already!! Cynthia: Hi everyone... AKTATTER: ok now be sure to catch the thread between the ring and the eye with your thumb AKTATTER: so the ring cannot close up yet Sherong: AK: Got a file damaged message again. Wonder if it's just too many folks trying at the same time? Mimi: Hi ya AK, Got the rest of htis springs lessons booked? AKTATTER: insert the needle under the ringt side of this loo around your thumb AKTATTER: June 1 is last lesson got one? Sherong: Only one more week for spring. :( Mimi: If I work hard the rose will be done AKTATTER: Judy then pull the needle all the way thru the loop Cynthia: I get damaged file message and have since this afternoon.... AKTATTER: ld onto the ds in your left hand and pull out the slack Mimi: I have the 2 diagrams nearly done and text that I need to proof AKTATTER: oh well maybe it is possible if you have time? Paule: What are we doing? Mimi: I'll do my best, but if something springs up fully formed please accept :) Judy: i am not sure it did this correctly but the ring is close---I tucked the needle into the first double stitch AKTATTER: wellit is a huge file it has permission restrictions on it so I could not break it into smaller parts AKTATTER: ok great judy Sherong: not into the first ds, the space before the first ds Mimi: To get the daisy picot file, I downloaded rather than tried to open. That is, right click, Save Target As, and saved to my desktop. Took 2 mins Sherong: the loop you are pulling through the formed stitches Angela: I downloaded it just fine. Cynthia from x.x.x.211 joined the chat 48 minutes ago Cynthia: sorry I got bounced... AKTATTER: Cyn clear your memory and try again others are getting it ok Sherong: Trying save as now. Paule: MImi I am ready for a rose... Mimi: Great Sheron! AKTATTER: ok Judy please try again I might have typed something wrong Sherong: When you turn your work you will see the threads cross, put the needle through that loop and it will be a knot. AKTATTER: if you use a cut piece of thread AKTATTER: the ring closes without any other step Sherong: And work is ready to make chain AKTATTER: this method is the second one top one on this page http://www.frontiernet.net/~tammyrodgers/rhtech.html#rr AKTATTER: if you are using the thread attached to the ball AKTATTER: then you need to add the next step AKTATTER: see the third photo on this page http://www.frontiernet.net/~tammyrodgers/rhtech.html#rr AKTATTER: ok it is time to start the regular class AKTATTER: PLEASE SIGN IN AKTATTER: MAY 25, 2009 EVENING SESSION REGULAR CLASS AKTATTER: GEORGIA SEITZ AKTATTER@AOL.COM GREENUP ILLINOIS USA Angela: Angela Miracle, Lupton, MI USA, aanjel51@yahoo.com Paule: Paule Primeau Boucherville Quebec Canada toujoursvivante@videotron.ca AKTATTER: JUDY, PLEAS ADD YOUR NAME AND HOMETOWN TO THE LIST Cynthia: Cynthia Stevenson Stillwater OK (USA) brasthatfit@yahoo.com Sherong: Sheron Goldin, sherongb@yahoo.com, Usually Columbia, SC today Brooklyn, NY AKTATTER: EMAIL ADDRES IS OPTIONAL Bonnie: Bonnie Peters, Cassadaga, NY mbhp12@iwon.com Mimi: Mimi Dillman, Snohomish, WA ntrop@ix.netcom.com AKTATTER: JUDY CYNTHIA IS LEADING THE BEGINNERS CLASS ON THURSDAY AKTATTER: CYNTHIS, JUDY IS A NEW NEEDLE TATTER BEGINNER AKTATTER: OK BE SUER TO BRING UP THE NEW DIAGRAMS FOR DAD Krystledawne: Krystledawne@gmail.com Krystle Pyette Puyallup, WA USA AKTATTER: OR PRINT THEM UP AKTATTER: WE NEED THEM LATER AKTATTER: WE BEGIN WITH THE MUG RUG Krystledawne: Thanks all for the kind emails after I had the baby. Never tried it Cynthia: Judy, I'll try to send you a message after class AKTATTER: IT ALLOWS YOU TO ADD LOTS OF COLOR TO YOUR WORK EASILY Sherong: IT'S FUN ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT, JUST LIKE EVERYTHING IN TATTING AKTATTER: SHERON WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK US THRU THE PATTERN Krystledawne: I read someone just rubber banded their shuttle together, will this work? Sherong: BASICALLY IT'S A SIMPLE EDGING AKTATTER: YES IT WILL ALTHO A BIT AWKWARD Judy: thank you...I am going back to the lesson pagess to try and figure this out. Sherong: IT WILL WORK BUT WON'T BE AS EASY AS USING THE REGULAR SHUTTLE Sherong: POST SHUTTLE DOESN'T WORK WELL AKTATTER: EMAIL ME JUDY FOR MORE PAGES AND PLEASE JOIN US AGAIN NEXT MONDAY AND JOIN THE THURSDAY CLAS TOO Krystledawne: Mmm. AKTATTER: OK THIS IS AN EDGING AND YOU TURNJ THE CORNER AND JOIN BACK TO THE FIRST STRIP Sherong: THE BEAUTY OF THIS PIECE TO ME IS THE LOOK YOU GET WITH THE CONTROLED USE OF COLOR. AKTATTER: WE SHOULD NOTE THAT THE ROWS TAKE ON A PATTERN BECAUSE OF NEGATIVE SPACE AKTATTER: AND BECAUSE OF WHICH COLOR IS USED FIRST Krystledawne: how do you change the colors? O can't visualize how it's done yet AKTATTER: RIGHT Sherong: IN ONE WAY, THE 4 RINGS NOT JOINED YOU GET AN O AKTATTER: REMEMBER THE DBS HAS TWO COLORS ALREADY Sherong: IN THE OHTER WAY THE 4 RINGS JOINED SHOW AN x Krystledawne: yeah Sherong: GEORGIA HAS THE SITE SHE HAS BASIC INSTRUCTIONS POSTE Krystledawne: do you wrap one or both colors? Krystledawne: ..............so lost lol Sherong: YOU CARRY ONE THREAD ENCAPSULATED WITHIN THE OTHER Judy: will do Sherong: ONE COLOR, RING COLOR, IS WRAPPED AROUND YOUR HAND Sherong: OTHER THREAD GOES FROM PINCH TO THE SHUTTLE WITHOUT GOING AROUND THE HAND Krystledawne: mmmmm I seee! AKTATTER: http:/www.georgiaseitz.com/2007/2bobbinshtl/sherong2bobbinshtlhowto.html Sherong: AK:: URL FOR ORIGINAL CLASS PLEASE Krystledawne: I think. Cynthia: Judy send me an email after class and I can send you some other info.... Need to add another thing to the list of "things to buy from handy hands" Sherong: METAL SHUTTLE? PELC? WORKS THE SAME AKTATTER from x.x.x.226 joined the chat 32 minutes ago Cynthia: that works too Paule they work the same way Sherong: AND GET THE BOOK FROM THERE ALSO Cynthia: at least the same concept... Paule: yes metal AKTATTER: NOTE THAT THE ROWS FORM "X" AND "O" Sherong: IT HAS MORE THAN JUST RINGS AND CHAINS, HAS SPLIT RINGS, SPLIT CHAINS AND SCMR WITH DBS Cynthia: I have a pelc Paule: pelc yes AKTATTER: THE "O" ROW BEGINS WITH COLOR 1 AND ENDS WITH COLOR 2 AKTATTER: THE "X" ROW START AND ENDS WITH THE SMAE COLOR Sherong: METAL HAS MORE FLEXABILITY IN NOT HAVING THREAD LENGTH FROM PINCH TO SHUTTLE THE SAME Paule: book? AKTATTER: AND IF YOU HAVE 2 DBS THEN YOU COULD HAVE 4 COLORS Sherong: TATTING WITH THE DOUBLE BOBBIN SHUTTLE MADE EASY AKTATTER: AND YOU COULD ALTERNATE THE COLOR OF THE CHAINS Cynthia: The concept is the same...it just takes some trying to get it to feel right Sherong: RELEASED AT PALMETTO'S LAST YEAR AKTATTER: OR SWAP BOBBINS/COLORS BETWEEN SHUTTLES Paule: from Lacis? Sherong: HANDY HANDS HAS THE BOOK, DON'T THINK LACIS HAS IT AKTATTER: hANDY hANDS HAS THEM ALSO AKTATTER: ABOUT $14 AKTATTER: NOTE THAT THE FIRST ROW FIRST RING Sherong: BOOK IS $16 SINCE HH STARTED CARYING IT AKTATTER: HAS LONG PICOT Paule: thanks AKTATTER: THIS LONGER PICOT IS NEEDED BECAUSE YOU WILL MAKE MULTIPLE JOINS INTO IT AKTATTER: ANY QUESTIONS FOR sHERON?
