The idea for Jane's egg came from "Tatted Easter Eggs" by Kirsten Wind Hansen (2004), Easter Egg No. 5 on page 12. It's a simple pattern: Rings are 3-2-1-1-2-3; outer chains are 7-1-1-7, inner chains are 12 ds. The only tricky part is fitting the lace to the egg because one row is made first (the rings aren't joined at that time--the second row joins the rings together) and it's hard to figure out a length to fit around the egg. Jane recommends doing a sample of both rows and measuring to get a handle on sizing.
