Introducing the Half Moon Split Ring

Bina Madden introduces the online tatting class to the Half Moon Split Ring (HMSR). The HMSR is a construction technique in which a split ring is modified to create the appearance of a two chains, i.e., "chain over chain."

The normal split ring proceeds from point A to point B. Note the caps of the ds face outward on both sides.

The normal chain proceeds from point A to point B, thus, two chains, one over the other, would require two passes. The ds of both chains face the same direction

The half moon split ring proceeds from point A to point B. The double stitches of the hmsr are wrapped so that the caps of the ds (normally facing outward) are facing into the center of the split ring

The HMSR closed.
