This is a set of four double onion rings. Note the doubled picots on some of the butterflies.

Hope used size 20 thread in two colors. She began with the two threads unknotted (not tied.) She tatted the first ring, then held the second thread up to it and simply began the new ring there. Between the sets of rings she left just a tiny bit of thread to accomodate the widths of the tatted element (so that the butterfly would lay flat and not overlap rings.)

The order of tatting: Ring 1 + 2 upper right wing Ring 3 + 4 lower right wing Ring 5 + 6 lower left wing Ring 7 + 8 upper left wing
