To aid in understanding the Josephine Knot, Rose Rogers has selected a pattern from the 1912 Emmanuel Bocher Tatting Bookwhich was originally published in French. Rose has translated the patterns and posted them for our tatting enjoyment. (That was a real gift to tatters, many thanks, Rose!)

The original pattern has a regular ring being thrown off the chain using shuttle 2. Rose has modified this pattern to a Josephine Knot, i.e., a ring made using only one half stitch.

R = ring CH = chain - = picot + = join
RW = reverse work DNRW = do not reverse work
