Two Hearts as One
Design by Martha Ess
© February 2001, Revised June 2001

Important Notes:

Each thread color joins only to itself, never to the other color.

All references to "front," "back," etc., refer to the work as viewed from the front.
Purple Celtic Heart Front Enlarged Purple Celtic Heart Back Enlarged

Check that all threads are in the right place immediately before and after every join and ring close. If you do find a shuttle trapped on the wrong side of the work, you can sometimes salvage by unwinding the shuttle and pulling the thread through to the other side of the work.

Threads are referred to as "light" and "dark" because this is easier for me to visualize than "color A" and "color B". Of course, you may use any shades you wish, though contrast is recommended.

Reverse work between rings and chains unless otherwise noted.

Materials:

4 shuttles (I find 4 shuttles easier to manage than 2 shuttles and 2 balls)

Thread in 2 colors, (in perle cotton size 8, approximately 14 yards of each). Wind CTM onto 2 pairs of shuttles.

Elastic wrist band recommended. Tuck extra shuttles into it to avoid tangles.

Size (approx):

Size 10: 3 x 4 in

Perle 8: 3 x 3

Size 20: 2 x 3

Perle 12: 2 x 2

Size 80: 2 x 2
