Pattern by Susan Phillipo, June 2000

KEY:

R = ring

C = chain

B or b = bead

P or p = picot

- = picot

+ or J = join

^ = reverse picot

# = number of double stitches (DS or ds) or beads (B)

RW = reverse work

SR = split ring

CL = close ring

#/# = # beads on knotting thread / # beads on shuttle thread

Requires 2 tatting shuttles. String beads onto tatting thread and wind onto both shuttles. Recommend using DMC 12 thread.

CLOVERLEAF:

Using shuttle 1. R1 (requires 9 beads on knotting (ring) thread): 2ds; 6Bseparated by 2ds; 2ds; P; 2ds; 3 B separated by 2ds; 2ds; P; 3ds; CL.

R2 (requires 9 beads on knotting (ring) thread): 3ds; J; 2ds; 3B separated by 2ds; 2ds; 3/1B; 2ds; 3B separated by 2ds; 2ds; P; 3ds; CL.

R3 (requires 9 beads on knotting (ring) thread): 3ds; J; 2ds; 3B separated by 2ds; 2ds; P; 2ds; 6B separated by 2ds; 2ds; CL; RW.

CROWN:

C1: 3ds; P; 2ds; 3/3B; 2ds; 3/3B; 2ds

Using shuttle 2. R4 (requires 5 beads on knotting (ring) thread): 3ds; 1B; 2ds; 3/1B; 2ds; 1B; 3ds; CL.

Using shuttle 1: C2: 2ds; 3/3B; 2ds; 3/3B; 2ds; P; 3ds; RW.

Continue to repeat Cloverleaf and Crown patterns until desired length is achieved. NOTE: substitute join in place of the 1st picot in the first ring of the cloverleaf motifs and the 1st picot of the chains.
